PXE Boot using DHCP options
I have a question about PXE,
Do you need more than a file called pxeboot.com? On the PXE server point? Or is there a bunch of files you need to point clients to using DHCP options Port 66, and 67?
I am attempting to use DHCP options (for now until the Cisco guys configure the routers for IP Helper)
My SCCM site server will be PXE enabled and I have DHCP on seperate subnet.
Now I need to understand what to do with the SCCM site server, I copy PXEboot.com onto a share? Or do I need to copy a bunch of files onto a share and point Port 67 to it on the DHCP server?
Thanks

Hi,
You need to apply the following options:
Option 60 isPXEClient
Option 66 will contain the ip or FQDN of your WDS server (PXE Service Point role in SCCM)
Option 67 will contain the name of your bootfile (SMSBoot\x86\wdsnbp.com)
Good Luck,

Correct me if I am wrong but don't youONLY use option 60if you are putting both PXE and DHCP roles on the same server?

Hi Exzilerate,
As far as i know: NO. I have it b.t.w. in my environment and it works as expected.

Okay when I add option 60 I get this error,
Proxy DHCP service did not reply on Port 4011

And it works if you don't add it?
I don't think option 60 is that important. the 66 and 67 options are more relevant. I have the 3 but it could be that in some environments option 60 doesn't work.
Let me know the outcome, i'm very curious.

If I remove option 60 i get the error File Not Found and it gives this error quickly while if I add option 60 it seems to take longer but then I get the ProxyDHCP error I mentioned above.
Now if I get the network guys to use IP Helpers on our Cisco routers, this will eliminate the use of DHCP options. Is this Correct?
I would still like to resolve this issue with DHCP options... my smsboot is populated with the .com files. But which one should I use?? PXEBoot.com?
Thanks,

Ask your Cisco tech if traffic on 4101 on WDS is open on the firewall.

You should use: SMSBoot\x86\wdsnbp.com
B.t.w. checking if the port is enabled at firewall level can also solve your issue.

I have a Microsoft DHCP server on the same vlan as my WDS/SCCM server but not on the same server. All clients exist on other vlans. I did not enable options listed above.
I added an entry to our Cisco 3750 to pass the packets coming from the WDS server to get PXE boot to work.
Vlan 3 - DHCP Server, WDS/SCCM server
Vlan 4 - Clients
DHCP Server - 172.16.100.100
WDS/SCCM - 172.16.100.101
Interface vlan 4
ip helper-address 172.16.100.100
ip helper-address 172.16.100.101
I know this is an old thread but after searching for answers and not finding them easily explained I'm posting this for future reference for those that have a similar problem.
