PXE boot testing
Hi All,
We are migrating a SCCM 2007 SP2 R2 Server from one hardware to another hardware with different site code. This is basically side by side migration. We have already setup a new SCCM Primary server with different site code and the same configuration as my
previous SCCM Primary Server. There is a SCCM Central server with site code 001. Primary server with site code 002.Now the new SCCM Primary server as site code 003.This 002 and 003 Servers are in same LAN connection.PXE boot from 002 is happening fine now as
it is in production. . I have already pushed the packages, OS install images and boot images to 003 Server.I have 2 questions below
1. I would like to test the packages by installing that packages from DP of 003.What would be the best way to do this.
2. As 002 and 003 both are in same LAN, so I think we cannot enable PXE role at a time in these 2 Servers. But I would like to test PXE boot with OS install from 003 Server. How can I disable PXE on 002 and test on 003 at the same time.
3. If there is any document regarding the above scenario, it will be helpful for me.Thanks & Regards Uttam

1. I would suggest you to ad the test IP range to new SCCM server boundary and make the DP as protected DP.
2. There is an option in the PXE service point setup to not allow the PXE service point to not respond to requests. Have you tried that?Anoop C Nair - This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees, and confers no rights. |Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually

How do clients "find" the PXE service point? Are they in the same VLAN as the server (broadcasting) or are they in separate VLANs (using DHCP options 66/67 or IP helpers)?Torsten Meringer | http://www.mssccmfaq.de

Hi Anoop / Torsten,
I will test the option suggested by you - PXE service point to not respond to requests.
Client find the PXE service point through using DHCP options 66/67(They are in separate VLAN)
Any more thoughts on this? Thanks & Regards Uttam

so you will also need to update your dhcp option 66, to point to the new site server.

1 Try to distribute packages. And you know in the wizard, there is an option to let you to choose which DP to use.
2 I think you could enable PXE point on the 002 and 003 at the same time. Thus you could temporarily disable PXE on 002 and test 003's functionality. You can refer to the docs attached to SCCM console.
