PXE password settings will not save
I am having one of the weirder issues I have come across. No matter what I do, the "Require a password for computers to boot using PXE" setting will not save. I am able to enter in the settings, but once you reopen the service point properties window the box is unchecked and password is blank. Other than this one thing the service is operating exactly how it should. Here are the various steps I have tried to resolve this issue: 1. Check the console log to see if there was in issue sending the new settings. Nothing of interest in log. 2. Deleting the service point and then re adding it. No good, the password settings does not save via this window either. 3. Constantly trying to make the change then checking server logs for any errors. I never found anything related to this. 4. Server reboot, did not work. 5. sccm repair, did not work. 6. A total uninstall of both the pxe service and WDS, followed by a reinstall of these two services, in the correct order. Same result, could not save this setting. 7. Tried consoles on different machines, nothing. That is about where I am now, I have tried just about everything I can think of. Any ideas? Possibly setting this setting manually, or manually deleting this setting if corrupted?

I agree, there seems to be a bug here somewhere... You'll notice that when checking the box and writing a password the apply-button stays gray. What I found to work was definately more of a workaround than a fix, but I made it work by trying different combinations of "Enable unknown computer support" and "Require a password...". For example, I tried just now to remove the "Require a password..." check but it failed, but by checking "Enable unknown...", pressing apply, unchecking "Require a password...", apply, unchecking "Enable unknown...", apply I made it stick. Puh!

I'm really sorry to hear your bad experiences with the PXE password. I have seen that problem in the pre-RTM releases, but I thought it has been fixed in RTM. If not, SP1 or R2 should definitely have that fixed.

I've got SP1 and R2, but it still works as decribed.

Hi,
I have the same problem as described above. We have 1 primary and 2 secondary sites. I can set the password on the primary and one secondary site, but on the other secondary site the pasword is not used when booting from PXE.
Solution described above does not work - I can press the Apply-Button, but still the password is not used.
Does anyone have an idea what might be the reason? Version used should be 2007 R2 (at least primary site is).
Thanks,
Torsten.
