My self and our Technology Coordinator have recently started up a SCCM 2012 server for use across our public school district.  The server is running Server 2008 R2, SQL 2012, and SCCM 2012.  We went though adding the various roles and boundries and were rather pleased with the progress we were making.  That is until we noticed that a majority of our 32 bit machines weren't taking the client.  our 64bit machines didn't seem to be having any problems, but the adoption rate of 32 bit machines was dismal at best.  In fact the computers that haven't taken the client we tried pushing it to them and when that didnt work we tried manually starting from the machine itself.  We compared running services between computers in the same labs with the same hardware and software, verified the settings were the same on the computers but are unable to find any rhyme or reason some will install the client while others will not.  Any suggestions on what to do?

On a few of our 32 bit machines that are installing the client but not showing up in SCCM when i go to the ClientIDManagerStartup.log file here is what i see.

[RegTask] - Client is not registered. Sending registration request for GUID:19221601-F3B3-493C-9047-E65763BC945D ...

Tried this. and no change.  

the main problem we seem to be having now with the installation is some sort of communication problem between client and server. here are the errors ive discovered digging though various logs.  

client side:

Failed to receive ccm message response. Status code = 500

GetDPLocations failed with error 0x80004005

Failed to get DP locations as the expected version from MP 'WFPS-SCCM'. Error 0x80004005

Failed to find DP locations from MP 'WFPS-SCCM' with error 0x80004005, status code 500. Check next MP.

Have already tried all MPs. Couldn't find DP locations.

Failed to get client version for sending messages to FSP. Error 0x8004100e ccmsetup 7/23/2013 2:18:29 PM 828 (0x033C)

Request failed: 500 Internal Server Error

Victory!!!

     Our issue was two fold but i believe we have it fixed now.  At first we were getting the dreaded 1603 error indicating that it was unable to complete installation for some unknown reason.  After trying every fix we could find on Technet and on Google we basically broke our installation even further, receiving the errors we posted here.  After giving up and doing a complete re-installation on our server, we were back to square one with our 1603 error rearing its ugly head again.  We did notice however that some of our client computers that we re-imaged were now accepting the client with no errors.  after digging through our logs and inspecting with a fine tooth comb we noticed the last thing it was attempting to do before the installation would roll back was it registering a task with the windows task scheduler service.  Opening services i discovered that on a majority of our 32 bit systems the windows task scheduler service was disabled and could not be changed.  After going into our group policy manager and assigning the task scheduler service to be automatic instead of unassigned, i did a gpupdate and PRESTO! i reran the client install and it worked like a charm!

Non-standard configurations almost always lead to non-standard results. Who was the "brain-child" that decided to turn off that service? Punch them, repeatedly.
