Primary Site Missing Client

I have a stand alone primary site hierarchy. SCCM has been in place for almost 1 year now and I've never been able to get the client to install on the Primary site server. I have it installed all all of my other machines, its just the primary server that eludes me.

Any Ideas or suggestions would be great, if you need any logs and additional info please ask and Ill deliver:)

It should be no problem. What happens when you try? Do a Client Push and analyse the ccm.log file on the server.

I have two log files that I will post from, however these are both from 12/6. This is odd because I have ran the ccmsetup each day for a week either by push or manual, I see no logs from the 6th on for ccmsetup. I have confirmed the the ccmsetup process is running in TM when I initiate it.:

1. ccmsetup.log

That part of the logfile does not contain the part where the error occured. You should examine (!= post) client.msi.log to get an idea why it is failing.

A property listing ist just a listing of a property. Those lines can be ignored completely.
Search for "Return Value 3". The problem should be listed right before the first occurance.

When you try to install the client agent on a Microsoft System Center 2012 Configuration Manager management point that has Cumulative Update 3 for System Center 2012 Configuration Manager Service Pack 1 (CU3) installed, the installation fails. Additionally, you see the following error in the Client.msi log when verbose logging is enabled: [15:02:26] Registering Hosting Configuration.

  3. Reinstall the management point role.

lol Torsten's on this thread, possible boundary group assignment issue, this would make since because in order to remove the MP I removed it from my PS SCCM-MPS and added it to SCCM-WSS previously just my remote site DP. I also moved the FSP to SCCM-MPS from WSS for the duration of this troubleshooting. I will also make necessary changes to the boundaries to reflect the above changes and try again.

This thread describes the current issue at hand almost to the T:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/3329a401-77fd-4990-bc19-a75c7d7f5602/installing-the-sccm-2012-client-onto-a-pulldp?forum=configmanagerdeployment

Issue: MSI: Setup was unable to compile the file UpdatesAgent.mof
The error code is 80041002

Suggested Solution:

After some digging I stumbled across the solution for my problem, below is what fixed the issue for me... hopefully this will help someone else.

Environment

  • Configuration Manager 2012 SP1 with CU3.
  • The issue was on a freshly installed DP installing the client.

Solution

The issue was resolved by using the switch PATCH=<path_to_CU3_client_hotfix_msp> along with our normal installation parameters. While I didnt test this extensively, the PATCH switch seems to need the full path to the msp file (not a relative one).

My result after solution attempt:

Not sure where to go at this point, one thing I will attempt really quickly is to manually place the client.msi in the path C:\Windows\ccmsetup as one line of the log states it does not exist and it connects to a remote server to grab it.

or

trying to manually run the CU3 path cleint

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

re-cap of current setup:

Primary server SCCM-MPS has all roles except MP

Remote Site Server SCCM-WSS (formally just a DP) I have assigned it the additional role of MP for the time being.

Site Server Database SCCM-MSQL RSP and Database

All on Windows Server 2008 64-bit enterprise

SQL server is 2012 SP1

SCCM instance is 2012 SP1 with CU3 patch

Only issue experienced at this time is client install failure on SCCM-MPS, client installs on all other machines.

Notes from 100% manual install; i.e. clicked the client.msi and ran installation:

1st error dialog box: Warning 25701 Failed to uninstall PrepDrvr.Sys for Software Metering Agent

2nd error dialog box: Setup was unable to compile the file UpdatesAgent.mof The error code is 80041002

At this point the msi install rolls back and exits

Im going to go for a walk grab a coffee and come back Torsten if you have anymore god like input I would be very grateful..

Still working on this issue Ill post my latest work sometime this week.

I have resolved the issue. The issue is when a primary site is installed and before the client can install on  the said primary site a cumulative update is applied. In my environment I had installed the Primary site and immediately followed up with CU3 in turn causing a client installation error. This seems to be a known bug, the way to avoid this is to not be hasty with applying SCCM CU as they should only be installed when you are suffering or experiencing one of the defined issues the CU addresses.

So the long awaited fix was quite simple, just an added parameter to the manuall install string, PATCH="path location of CU hotfix for client", along with the normal switches. Here is the exact syntax I used to manually install the client via CMD:

ccmsetup.exe PATCH="C:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\hotfix\KB2882125\Client\x64\configmgr2012ac-sp1-kb2882125-x64.msp" /mp:SCCM-MPS SMSSITECODE=SCP FSP=SCCM-WSS

notice the file extn type .msp

Here are a few links I used today to identify the fix and apply it. Also if this doesn't work for you the other fix was to remove the CU install client and re-apply the CU, which I wanted to avoid.
