Problems deploying from BIDS to ReportServer
Hi folks, I am trying to deploy from VS2008 v3.5SP1 to a SRRS2008R2 remote deployment - with little success....
1. The SRRS site *works* in that I can connect to it from a browser using both the Report Manager URL and the Report Server URL
Report Server URL = http://<servername>/ReportServer
Report Manager URL = http://<servername>/Reports
2, I have VS set up to deploy to the Report Server URL -
http://<Servername>/ReportServer
3. When I hit deploy I get prompted for a userid and password - I have tried:
domain\userid password
and
servername\userid password
and
userid password
The deployment starts ok and confirms that it is deploying to
http://<servername>/ReportServer
The deployment then fails with : "Could not connect to report server
http://<servername>/ReportServer. Verify that the TargetServerURL is valid and that you have the correct permissions to connect to the report server.
Additional information - Unable to connect to ther remote server (Microsoft.ReportingServices.Designer)
However....when I check the site the folder Structure for the Data Sources and Report have been created - just empty.
I'm running out of ideas - so all help appreciated
oh yes - I have added the domain deployment account to the user security setting on the ReportServices site

The user used for deployment should be assign a security role of System user on SiteSettings (you clearlly did that), but also verify that user has a role of Content Manager for folder settings.
You can also try to put the reportserver site in local internet sites in IE explorer and verify that Custom level of security for those sites has Automatic logon with current user name and password checkbox selected.

Thanks for the response,
It appears to have been related to NLB and virtual IP addresses - I was attempting to deploy directly to the ipaddress managed by the NLB.
As soon as I removed the server from NLB deployment worked.
Also I tried deploying via an alternate ip address which also worked
When I re-enabled the server in the NLB Cluster the deployment to the NLB IP address failed.
I'm not sure why, but at least I have a solution - thanks for taking the time to answer.

Hi JokerUK,
As you already found, the issue is related to NLB cluster rather than the Reporting Service itself. Please kindly understand that we are discussing SQL Server Reporting Service in this forum. For NLB related issue, I would suggest you check with NLB expert
in Platform Network forum:

Thanks for the understanding.
