I am having the following problem. In the Profile Import settings area, I cannot designate the account that connects to Active Directory. No account I use works. Ive tried it a couple of ways. o When specifying the account in the View Import Connections I get the following error: An error occured while validating or updating the directory service connection. No update was performed. This looked similar to KB 949402 but the associated hotfix didnt fix my issue o When editing the Default Access Account under the Configure Profile Import I get the following error An error has occurred while accessing SQL database or system resources. If this is the first time you have seen this message, please try again later. If this problem persists, please contact your administrator.No change has been committed to database. I could be missing something but Ive verified permissions in SQL and they seem to match our other environments. Im assuming its using the Default Content Access account set in the Search Setting to do the profile import because I am able to do the import, Im just not able to set which account I want to use. My environment: MOSS install with the SP1 slipstreamed (2) 64 bit WFE/Query (1) 64 bit Indexer (2) 64 bit SQL 2005 servers Least privilege accounts Kerberos on all web apps Any suggestions or help would be great!

Hi,finally i got this issue resolved.The problem is i created one SSP but the search server it uses named SSP1_Search_DB is deleted by some other user in sql server.I created another SSP and deleted the first SSP. This way my problem is resolved.thanks-Praveen,

I ran into a similar problem but the cause was different. The crawl log was showing the error: SharePoint Import Profiles The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. So I went to Shared Services Administration > User profiles and properties > View import connections and created a new Active Directory entry, since everytime I tried to modify the exisitng one I was getting the following error: An error occured while validating or updating the directory service connection. No update was performed. So I opened "Active Directory Users and Computers" on the server and went to Action -> Connect to Domain Controller and copied the domain and the name under Current Domain Controller and pasted them into the Add Connection form in SharePoint, accepted the default settings and clicked OK. Next I clicked on Start Full Import , this time there were not errors and it added an entry on the log for each profile updated. Nice.. I removed the default entry since it was not set correctly. Anyway I hope this helps someone else.
