Protecting primary DPM server using secondary DPM server

Hi,

Please help me to clear my below doubts about secondary DPM 2012 server.

  1.        As we planned secondary DPM server for disaster recovery solution, how it will be possible to send the primary server data (its database & replicas) over the WAN at secondary DPM server which will be of huge in size?
  2.        How to calculate storage required at secondary site?
  3.        Whether same size of storage required at secondary site as primary site is having?

1) http://systemcenter-virtual.blogspot.ru/2011/06/dpmsite-to-site-replication-how-to.html

2) You can change retention range in DPMvolumeSizing.xlsx.

3) If you have same retention range that storage primary and secondary is same size.

1) This means if we are planning secondary DPM server for DR then it is mandatory to transfer the primary server data manually. Is there any alternate (auto) way?

2) DPMvolumeSizing.xlsx is for DPM 2007 & exchange 2007, can you please share updated version of this tool which can support DPM 2012 & exchange 2010.

3) So if we are planning to protect replica of primary server along with its DB & BMR then it will required more than primary server storage space for same retention range.

Instead of protecting replica & DB of primary server, if we just backup BMR of primary server using secondary server, will it be helpful to recover primary server successfully in case if disaster with their protection group intact? But here also question is that how can we send BMR backup of primary server to secondary server?

Can secondary use the storage of primary server to backup BMR of primary server? I think it wont be possible but just clearing my doubts.

Please suggest.

1) Data from primary to secondary will transfer auto (standard option DPM). Transmission speed will depend on the channel width.

2) DPMvolumeSizing.xlsx actual for DPM 2012 R2 and Exchange 2010.

You can also use

3) BMR and System State replicate every time with full copy (exclude page file)! That's why Secondary DPM server must have enough storage for backup data BRM of primary DPM . Other data (SQL, file, vhd) replicate (sync) ONLY  modified bloks.

"DPM 2012 uses Changed Block Tracking, which will transfer only changed blocks. This wont just improve backup performanceit will also lower the overall load on the server."

I recommend backup SQL database primary DPM with low the channel width. And backup SQL database primary DPM and BRM with high the channel width.
