Putting machines in Multiple Collections
I'm currently trying to create a TEST collections to test pushing siftware and OS's. The way we are structured is set up by subnets becuase are network is broke down .1 .2 .3 .4 etc for floor 1, 2, 3, 4 etc. I use Simple Value System Resource IP Subnets = 1.1.1.1 to populate every collection. The entire network has been discoverd, populated into the corresponding collection, and agents installed. When I create the collection TEST I only want to add 5-10 machines, I use Simple Value System Resource IP Address = 1.2.3.4 and 1.2.3.5 etc to populate. They get pulled into the collection and all seems well. However after about 5-10 min, they are removed from the collection. I'm assuming there is some sort of precedence on the IP Subnets =, over the IP address =. Is there anyway to have a computer in both collections? I've also attempted to use Netbios Name, and Resource ID which both populate the TEST collection, but the machines are pulled out within a few min. Any help would be greatley appreciated, thanks in advance.

No, we are not using Direct Membership rules, we are using Query Based. Should I try to use Direct Memberhsip Rule Wizard? Will it tale presidence over the Query based rule?

OK, I did the Direct Membership rule, and it populated the TEST collection promptly just as with the query based rule, I'm going to give it 20-30 min to see if they stay in. Also quick question, is there anyway to add multiple ip's without using the % sign for a wildcard? I tried comma delimited like 192.168.1.1,1923168.1.2 as well as semicolon seperated. If not that means If i wanted to use the Direct Membership to create a larger test group I would have to create a Specific rule for every IP?

For direct membership, then you'd have a unique rule for each IP address. For a query, you'd doa List of Values query. I tested using a query rule, with only the System Resource - IP Address value and it worked fine (was not removed). You never responded with whether or not that was your only criteria. If so, there's no reason the data would change to remove that client, unless our database was updated with a new IP address for the client.

hi, sorry if i bumped old thread but i have little question on this direct membership rule. let say i have 2 machines need to be added into this direct membership COMP001 and COMP002 how do i specify the line under the value so both computers will appear under the Resources? I have tried putting like COMP001;COMP002 (and comma, and & and putting "" in between but is not operable. appreciate any advice on this ..thank you.---Packie
