R3 and KB977384 Requirement
I want to deploy R3 and I know I need to install KB977384 as a prerequisite on the Site Servers. My question is regarding clients. I know I need to deploy 977384 to clients for the power management features. I can deploy 977384 to most
client systems but I have many regulated systems and can sometimes take long to get anything approved and deployed to these systems but I don't want to hae to wait for them. So my thinking is that I can deploy R3 to the site systems and deploy the 977384 hotfix
to the clients after. If a client does not have the hotfix is it just a matter of the power management features not being available? Will all other features be available to those clients and will the clients still be manageable? I have tested
this in the lab and it appears I am correct but I want to confirm and see if anyone has done this and found any gotchas. To sum it up, can a client still report to and be managed by an R3 site correctly without 977384, understanding that only the
power management features won't be available. Is this correct?

Mitch53,
You can deploy the hotfix at anytime to the clients. The clients will still function as normal when reporting into the R3 site even if the Hotfix is not applied. Have have not seen any issues with this.
What I like to do to role out the client is create a collection where it looks for clients as not having the r3 hotfix and then advertise the hotfix to that collection
select SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name,SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client from SMS_R_System where Client = 1 and ClientVersion < "4.00.6487.2157"Kind Regards, Tom Ziegler http://www.sccmguy.com | Twitter @Tom_Ziegler
