RSS Viewer webpart getting (407) proxy authentication required
Hi.
I've instaled MOSS 07 until here evrything ok. Then i start adding webparts to the site. When adding the rss viewer webpart and configuring it with some working feeds, i get a proxy authentication required (407). I've added the following to my web.config file:
<defaultProxy> <proxy proxyaddress="http://proxyserver_:_port" bypassonlocal="True" /></defaultProxy>
without this line i can't even reach my proxy.
So the problem is that i reach the proxy but it asks me for authentication. We all access the internet with authentication. No problems getting apps to work (i even tried various rss feeds apps to see if they work and they work)
I tried to get some other webparts that need to get off (internet) and they give the same kind of message. I know that this is something related to the aspnet web application trying to get out (internet), right? But i can't figure out how can i workarround this.
My question is how can I work arround this? How or where can i specify my proxy authentication credentials in webparts or sharepoint or ...?
Any help would be much appreciated!
Many thanks in advance.

Any tip would be great!!

Could you tell me how did you add the rss webpart in the first place?

Hi JaYZhiE,
Just edit your webpage (Site Actions -> Edit Page) then click under any webpart zone (Add a Web part) and finally in the new window that appears choose the webpart that you want to add (in this case RSS Viewer).
After this just I just modify the shared web part and configure it with the feed link.
Ever seen this kind of message?
Thanks.

Hi,
Have you had any luck sorting this out only I have the same problem. I've tried configuring the web.config file as well but can't find out how to specify users credentials to authenticateaccess throughthe proxy server....I've tried installing the ISA FWC and it still fails and I've tried configuring the MOSS FE as a SecureNAT client but all methods are failing?

Sorry folks but I'm afraid the default MOSS RSS viewer can only support anonymous feeds and authenticated feeds from the same farm when used wth kerberos.
You will need to look at a third party product for authenticated feed reading

I've managed to fix the MOSS proxy authentication problem. Basically I rebuilt the MOSS FE server and setup as a SecureNAT client again and the server still failed to access the external RSS feed (an issue with ISA 2004 that will be investigated further). Ithen installed the ISA FWC again and the feeds started working using the credentials of the service account that MOSS runs under.

What specifically is the limitation of the RSS viewer to authenticate outside the farm via Kerberos - are there any reference details ?? For an RSS feed outside the farm, does this fall back to NTLM ?We are limiting access through the proxy server to specific AD groups, so need to delegate via Kerberos for RSS feeds outside the farm.Enablingthe MOSS service account for proxy access would allow access, but would effectively bypass the access limitations.

We are also facing same problem on users machines. We tried defining these settings in Weg.config and RSS Feeds Script itself.
But when user, say "ABC", tries from MOSS Server and if he has proxy access he gets those RSS Feeds.
Once this is accessed for certain duration only users from their machins get access to theses RSS Feeds.
After the user "ABC's" session becomes inactive on MOSS server, all users from their Desktops gets proxy authontication required.
Till yet not able to get the solution. Still trying....

Hi,
Check if alternate access mapping is configured correctly.
I hope this will help.
