Reoccuring email reminders in Workflow 2010?

Hello everyone,

At our company, we run Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Server and I have been tasked with setting up a workflow using SPD to:

1. Keep track of two pieces of onboarding documents that need to be sent out to Managers and then to the Human Resources Personnel. These two documents have different due dates. The first one called "Core Training Plan" expires (due) in 1 year with email reminders sent out every 90 days. The second document is called "Draft Training Plan" and this one expires (due) in 3 months with email reminders sent out every 30 days. These documents could run in parallel.

2. Reminders! I for the life of me, cannot figure out how to trigger email reminders that are reoccuring for a single workflow! I have been able to do a basic three state, however it does not solve my problem. I moved to SPD to try and manually design a workflow. THe closest thing that I have been able to do is create a reminder on an expiring item ONCE using an expiration reminder workflow that I found at markeev.com

If I can get some help I would GREATLY APPRECIATE it. I am relatively new to SharePoint 2010 and am in the process of getting acquainted with workflow.

Thank you.

Vincent

Are you allowed to develop custom workflow in Visual Studio in your company? If yes, you can achieve sending reminders from there.

Thanks,

@ Ashish

Unfortunately we do not have or use Visual Studio. Everything must be done within SP or SPD.

Check this article which explains sending weekly reminders through SPD workflow.

Take idea from this as per your requirement.

@ashish

Thank you! It was interesting to find out about the reoccuring emails. Question: What is the main difference between your proposed version and "imughal's" version?

@imughal

Could you please detail how that workflow is done? it looks interesting but what columns did you have to create for the list? and what TYPE were the columns that were created?

Is it possible to share a little more of your example? I would really like to use that approach.

Hi Vincent,

We can run a SharePoint Designer workflow periodically from Retention policy from Information management policy. Check out this blog for more details.

Thanks & Regards,
