Requirements for Clients Installation
Dear ALl,
I need to find out what are the requirements for SCCM 2007 R3 Clients installation (manually) on the client machines.
Secondly, what would be the procedure if we have SMS 2003 in the site as well. Woudl we be required to provide the site name of SCCM 2007 R3 or AUTO would also work?
What source files would be required to do the install? Thanks.

Hello - Go through the article provided by Garth and asses which installation is suitable for your environment. Once that is decided we can go ahead and do further planning.Anoop C Nair - This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees, and confers no rights. |Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually

Installing the CM2007 client will automatically detect and uninstall any SMS 2003 client software. A site name is never needed maybe a site code. Are you installing CM2007 as a new site in a new hierarchy?
Be sure to remove any SMS 2003 records, boundaries etc from the System Mananagement container.Kent Agerlund | My blogs: http://blog.coretech.dk/author/kea/ and http://scug.dk/ | Twitter @Agerlund | Linkedin: /kentagerlund

This is the surprising part of it. I can see clients in both systems and can do remote desktop to same machine from both SMS and SCCM.
Can you clarify what actually happens, if we install SCCM 2007 Client on a machine that already has SMS 2003? tHANKS IN ADVANCE.

Hi,
Please refer to the information in the following link:
Configuration Manager Side-By-Side Upgrade
Client Installation and Upgrade Considerations
Client management must be maintained throughout the upgrade process. To ensure that clients are always assigned to a site and
properly managed, you should maintain their existing SMS 2003 site assignment until the Configuration Manager 2007 site is fully functional. Reassigning and upgrading the SMS 2003 clients to Configuration Manager 2007 clients can be accomplished using client
installation methods that do not require site boundary assignment. For example, you can use software distribution methods from the SMS 2003 site to simultaneously upgrade and reassign existing clients to the new Configuration Manager 2007 site. Another option
is to enable a discovery method at the new Configuration Manager 2007 site (without assigning boundaries to the site itself) and use the client push installation method to upgrade and reassign clients.
Regards,
Sabrina
