SCCM2007 Collection not showing anything
Hi all, We are facing a serious problem with our SCCM2007 deployment. It used to be working (mixed mode) for some time before we discovered recently that new clients were not being added into the collections. Upon checking we could see that the SCCM agents have been deployed successfully (installed), but none of the components are enabled. We could see a lot of "Client is pending registration. Sending confirmation request.." in the client PCs' ClientIDManagerStartup.log. The situation got worse when during some troubleshooting, I deleted a few computers with status "Approved: No" - suddenly all the computers in the collection disappeared. Rebooting didn't work - the collections are now empty (including All Systems). Going through the logs on the server yields the following: mp_rEGISTRATIONManager.log: ... Anything in the IIS logs. Look at the MPcontrol.log to make sure it is working. also look at the Mpsetup.msi to make sure it didn't repair to try to reinstall it self for some reason. you can also try to repair the Pefrmon... lodctr /r: c:\windows\system32\perfstringbackup.ini you can also check out compmon.log to see if other components are broken, causing the MP issue.http://www.sccm-tools.com http://sms-hints-tricks.blogspot.com

Did you check if there is a FW turned on the site server that may be blocking registrations? Also check the status of System components from SCCM Admin Console.Sabrina TechNet Community Support

Thank for the suggestions. I could not find any MPcontrol.log. Will to repair Perfmon and see if that does anything. Since SCCM is running in mixed mode, should IIS affect anything? For the status of System Components.. I opened up the SCCM Admin Console, under System Status->Site Status-> SCCM Primary Site -> Component Status shows no items. I'm still concerned about the MP_RegistrationManager.log: MP Reg: Failed to get client(GUID:B3DBA5F5-BC78-46FF-98CA-8062D63CE86F) public key: 0x80040238 MP_RegistrationManager 5/2/2012 6:18:47 PM 11024 (0x2B10) MP Reg: Processing completed. MPCONTROL.LOG is typicall under the client logs folder if the client is installed or SMS_CCM folder on the managament point as for MP Reg: Failed to get client(GUID:A76E5AB2-F130-4FF5-85C9-C3085D2D0AC2) public key: 0x80040238 MP_RegistrationManager 5/2/2012 6:18:57 PM 5584 (0x15D0). That looks like the client has a bad or invalid certificate . You can use ccmclean.exe to clear out all of sccm and it's settings from the client then reinstall. I bleieve there is also a delcert.exe util that was for 2003 that will work for 2007 also.

possible but not sure. I would think you be seeing more errors. I would think mpcontrol would not be there if mp wasn't isntalled properly See if this pertains to you. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgribcm/thread/36ead806-b451-4d10-a06c-36ef852a99c3 Have to tried removing and reinstalling the MP. Is the MP a secondary or primary site?
May 3rd, 2012 9:17pm

I have tried removing and reinstalling the MP - it is on the primary site. Our SCCM is running mixed mode though. Ya, I'm not sure why mpcontrol.log is not in there, however our SCCM installation has been been running for a long time, and thus if this log was a concern, surely it would have been generated during those times. I tried some of the recommendations listed in the link you attached, so far it's not working yet. more logs -> CertificateMaintenance.log: Raising event: instance of CCM_ServiceHost_CertRetrieval_Status { ClientID = "GUID:0CFB2311-98DF-4E39-BD4D-158CF4A4FA19"; DateTime = "20120504021400.143000+000"; HRESULT = "0x00000000"; ProcessID = 8104; ThreadID = 5188; }; CertificateMaintenance 5/4/2012 10:14:00 AM 5188 (0x1444) IsCertficateExportable(0x42bd590) skipping check on an MP. If you dont' see mpcontrol.log under server installed directory/logs I would have to assume that the mp installer is not running even though it shows in the console.. This is the file it runs when you add a MP to a site threw console. Do you have a dir under sccmdir/mp. Also if you goto site status and look at your primary site. Is it in critical? If you goto the compents under site status does SMS_MP_CONTROL_MANAGER show up and running? Are these logs from the client or the server. Are you using SSL or speical ports for sccm? Mpsetup.log should be somewhere on the server if the install ran properly.

Thanks for the prompt feedback - really appreciate it! OK, let's see from the ConfigMgr Console: Site Management->WIN (primary site)->Site Settings->Component configuration->Management Point Component: In the Management Point Component Properties, the MP server name is defined and chosenSite Management->WIN->Site Settings->Site Systems->\\FATAH (the server name)->ConfigMgr management point: I've deleted the role and added back the role again. Is that correct? Currently the ConfigMgr Management point properties is ok, "Allow devices to use this MP" tickedSystem Status->Site STatus->WIN Primary site->Component Status : There are no items to show in this viewSystem Status->Site STatus->WIN Primary site->Site System Status: All Status OK, except for ConfigMgr Management Point showing status Warning and Availability Degraded. Yikes! What does that mean? The Availability of the other Roles are unknown, except for ConfigMgr SQL SErver (online).OK, I'm not sure where's this mp.msi. I'm at c:\Program Files (x86)\SMS_CCM .. this is SCCM 2007 R2 btw cheers,

IF you right click the compoent you should be able to view the logs and see whats failing and if when you goto Primary Site > Compoent status if this is blank that is not good. You should be seeing alot of items under this. If your not seeing anything like below you have a corrupt site, either server or sql/database corruption or communication failure.

Might end having to do that. If your in a large enviorment starting from a clean install might be the easiest way to go if you do not wanna call microsoft. Have you just tried rebooting the server. Are you using 2008 or 2003 servers? Reason is ask is because of this message. It looks like the executive service may be hung or not starting properly. I read on some forums with 2008 servers you may need to but the sccm services into a automatic (delayed start) because there can be some instances were the sccm services try to start before other dependencies are running. Could not stop service SMS_EXECUTIVE. The operating system reported error 0: The operation completed successfully.
