SCCM 2007 - USMT 4.0 question

We have SCCM 2007 and I confused the OS deployment migration about the USMT

Option 1: Currently , we're using the USMT to migrate the user profiles from copying the profiles workstation to server and it's take time due to copying and restoring of files in server

Task Sequence Step :

   a. Copy the user profiles to the server

   b. Format the harddisk and apply the OS

   c. Restored the user profiles

Option 2: Hardlink ? ,  Wiping the hardisk ?  (I'm not usiing this technology )

Please elaborate what means by "Hardlink" in "laymanterm" how this tool will help me

May I know in the above option is better ? Option 1 or Option 2  in your oppinion ?

Hi,

Regarding the hardlink, you may refer to the following link to use the hardlinking in System Center Configuration Manager 2007:

How to use USMT 4 hardlinking in a Configuration Manager 2007 Task Sequence

If you dont have a requirement to format harddrive, hardlink is good. It is faster then using SMP or copying data to the network drive.

But if you want to format the HDD due to partition requirements, then you can not use the hardlink. Then your options will be SMP or Copyign to a network share. You can also use offline method to do this.
