SCCM 2007 OSD USB Task Sequence Issues?

Hi,

I am having an issue using SCCM 2007 OSD.

When I create task sequence (Windows 7 x86) boot media and choose create bootable media it does not boot on
on my target machine the cursor blinks in the corner and the machine does not boot into PE.

However if I choose the option to burn an ISO (Media file) I have more succcess it boots into PE and
the task sequence starts.

The machine I am building this from is a Windows XP machine and I am reading this will not work?

So is this really the case? If so why does it not work from XP? I assume I need to use Windows 7 to
build it?

Also assuming I am using Windows 7 are there any other steps besides the wizzard to make it work
like setting the active partition - or will the wizzard do all of that for me.

Thanks,

Ward

Booting a system to WinPE (the boot images in ConfigMgr use WinPE) from any type of optical or removable media has *nothing* to do with the OS currently on that system -- how could it -- it doesn't know about the contents of, access, or depend upon the local hard drive in any way?

What you are seeing is a hardware issue. Have you tried a different USB port? I've seen this on some older Dell models where one USB port won't allow a boot, but others will.

Not sure what you mean with your last question. Everything that happens during OSD is defined by the task sequence(s) that you advertise and run on the target system.
