SCCM R3 msi parameters
SCCM R3 is failing to "update the sms_def.mof file". The logs show that it is looking for "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Configuration Manager." SCCM is actually installed at "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager"
What parameters can I use to point the install directory to a different location?

You shouldn't need to point it anywhere. It should find the correct install path. Something is broken. I never, ever install to C and it always works for me.

Hi,
The “Setup was unable to update the sms_def.mof file” error occurs since SCCM are trying to find this file. It is possible that you customized this file
or didn’t have any sms_def.mof file.
Please check if the sms_def.mof file is existed in the Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Configuration Manager\inboxes\clifiles.src\hinv. If you have the backup
files there, you may copy the \inboxes\clifiles.src\hinv folder from the backup to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Configuration Manager\inboxes\clifiles.src\hinv.
Regards,
Sabrina

Hello - It seems something wrong with the installation path (if you are using windows 2008 64 bit). If it's win2k8 64 bit then it should be
C:\Program Files (x86) NOT C:\Program Files.

If you migrate from x86 to x64, you still have teo stick to Program Files folder (without (x86)). R3 then gets confused and will look for binaries in (x86). Just make a link to the proper folder with:
mklink /D „C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Configuration
Manager” „C:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager"
R.E.M. - YEAH!
