SCCM Remote Tools Not Working Properly
Hi All,
I'm installing a SCCM 2007 SP2 site on a Win2K8 R2 server and have a pilot XP SP3 client installed with Remote Tools enabled (Full Control). The problem is that when I try to control the XP desktop I receive the following message in my Remote Control
window:
"The remote computer is either locked, or there is no user currently logged on. Configuration Manager remote control requires an interactive user to be logged on to the computer and for the session to be unlocked. Use Remote Desktop Connection client to
control this computer, or click Cancel to terminate the connection."
At the time of this message, the rest of the Remote Control window is black with a big "pause" (as in 2 vertical lines) icon appears in the top left corner and on the XP client (which I am logged in on) shows the prompt on whether I want to accept the remote
control request or not. When I say yes, nothing changes on the server side Remote Control window. I've also tried disabling the user prompt so the user doesn't even need to grant permission but no change. In that instance the Remote
Tools icon appears in the system tray when I connect from the server but the window on the server remains black with the same verbiage noted above.
I did find someone else with this problem at

no solution. :(
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
-Jeff

When you say you are logged into the XP client, does that mean you are logged into the console or a terminal session using RDP?Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/jsandys/default.aspx | Twitter @JasonSandys

Hi,
This is the standard way ConfigMgr 2007 works. You can't control a locked or logged out machine hence the warning. You will need to do a Remote Desktop Connection to the machine. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

Hi Jason,
I am logged into the XP machine locally. Not using RDP.
The machine is NOT locked, or logged out. I'm logged in locally to the XP machine and sitting at the desktop. From the XP client side, all appears normal where the prompt on whether to allow Remote Control shows up, click to Allow and the icon
shows in the system tray. Yet, I'm still receiving this message from the server side.
Thanks,
-Jeff

Hello,
Have you found a resolution? I am having the same issue
"The remote computer is either locked, or there is no user currently logged on. Configuration Manager remote control requires an interactive user to be logged on to the computer and for the session to be unlocked. Use Remote Desktop Connection client to
control this computer, or click Cancel to terminate the connection."
The person I am trying to connect to is at his desk so he computer is not locked or inactive.
Any suggestions?

I'm having the same problem but it's not because it's locked as that is normal ... I was wondering is there a AD policy that will keep the user logged in but the computer in an "unlocked" state so I can use the Remote Tools instead of RDP?

No. There is no way to prevent a user from locking their console.Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/jsandys/default.aspx | Twitter @JasonSandys
