SCCM client not deploying to secondary site machines
Hi everyone We have an SCCM implementation, the Primary site is in the head office and there are about 200 machines in the head office, we have a couple of smaller remote offices with 10-30 people in them. I wanted to set these up as secondary sites to allow us to manage the machines and deploy software. I installed the secondary site and it is live in the SCCM console on the primary site. I have set up the site boundaries with the IP range of the office and run the network discovery, it has picked up a bunch of machines, I've set them to be approved and to install the client, the client is available on the secondary site server distribution point but it is not being installed on the machines. The CCM log file shows the info below for one of the machines in that office... ======>Begin Processing request: "UK-2877_UK_GMS_COM.UK", machine name: "UK-2877" $$<SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER><Tue Oct 26 22:49:07.380 2010 GMT Daylight Time><thread=5220 (0x1464)> ---> Trying the account stored in the CCR (index = 0x0)~ $$<SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER><Tue Oct 26 22:49:07.380 2010 GMT Daylight Time><thread=5220 (0x1464)> ---> Attempting to connect to administrative share '\\UK-2877.uk.gms.com\admin$' using account 'uk\sccm-service'~ $$<SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER><Tue Oct 26 22:49:07.381 2010 GMT Daylight Time><thread=5220 (0x1464)> ---> Connected to administrative share on machine UK-2877.uk.gms.com using account 'uk\sccm-service'~ $$<SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER><Tue Oct 26 22:49:07.630 2010 GMT Daylight Time><thread=5220 (0x1464)> ---> Attempting to make IPC connection to share <\\UK-2877.uk.gms.com\IPC$> ~ $$<SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER><Tue Oct 26 22:49:07.630 2010 GMT Daylight Time><thread=5220 (0x1464)> ---> Searching for SMSClientInstall.* under '\\UK-2877.uk.gms.com\admin$\'~ $$<SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER><Tue Oct 26 22:49:07.632 2010 GMT Daylight Time><thread=5220 (0x1464)> ---> System OS version string "5.1.2600" converted to 5.10 $$<SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER><Tue Oct 26 22:49:08.534 2010 GMT Daylight Time><thread=5220 (0x1464)> ---> Service Pack version from machine "UK-2877" is 3 $$<SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER><Tue Oct 26 22:49:08.534 2010 GMT Daylight Time><thread=5220 (0x1464)> ---> Mobile client on the target machine has the same version, and 'forced' flag is not turned on. Hi! I read in your post that you have selected "Always install" in the client push wizard, but from the log file ('forced' flag is not turned on) it doesn't seem like this has been done.. You can verify this if you go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Configuration Manager\inboxes\ccr.box\inproc or C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Configuration Manager\inboxes\ccrretry.box Depending if the client is currently trying or retrying Open the .ccr file for the UK-2877 computer with notepad and take a look what it says under Forced CCR If it says False I agree with Kent, try with "Always install" and try again. If it fails again, please post an updated log file

Where are the clients discovered? If they are discovered by the primary site then it is the primary site that will initiate the client install. Do you have the necessary ports open from the primary site to the secondary site's clients? http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb632618.aspx

Hi Henrik There isn't any file for that PC, here is the contents of that file for a different PC on the same network in case that helps. I think they were initially discovered by the Primary site, is there any way to remove them and get the secondary site to discover them? Is it as simple as removing them from the all systems collection and then running a discovery from the secondary site?Freebie Jeebies | unlimited web hosting | diecast toys | Essex IT support | Free Wordpress Templates

What happend with that machine UK-2877, did it install? In your example above "Last error code=5" means access denied http://www.myitforum.com/articles/8/view.asp?id=9882 Can you submit a new updated section of ccm.log file where client installation fails, curious to see if "'forced' flag is not turned on" still exists when you choose "Always install"

no it didn't install on that machine either, it hasn't installed on any of the secondary site machines yet. I've removed them from the All Systems collection and re-run discovery and they have appeared in there again with the correct site code for the secondary site but I still can't install the client.Freebie Jeebies | unlimited web hosting | diecast toys | Essex IT support | Free Wordpress Templates

It's still saying that forced flag is not turned on, is there anywhere else I need to set it. I am doing it by right clicking the machine in the All Systems collection, choosing install client and then selecting "Always install (Repair or upgrade existing client) and then completing the install wizard. try and restart the sms executive service. If you changes in the console is not being recorded in the ccm.log file then something is is wrong.Kent Agerlund | http://scug.dk/ | The Danish community for System Center products

I've tried that, I've also tried removing the client from one of the machines so that if it is simply that it can't overwrite the current version that's on there then that should allow it to install a fresh copy as it's no longer on that machine. Still nothing.Freebie Jeebies | unlimited web hosting | diecast toys | Essex IT support | Free Wordpress Templates

** UPDATE ** I have removed the old client off of one of the machines and it has now reinstalled it, but none of the site information is populated on that machine and in the SCCM console it still says that no client is installed. Something very strange is going on here. If I try to update the sitecode manually or click the auto update site code on the client machine then it fails to get the site code. I have checked AD and the secondary site information has been published to the Systems Management container. Any ideas of what to look for next? Thanks again for any help you can provide. A client belonging to a secondary site needs to communicate with the primary site's MP for site assignment. Is port 80, 443 or whatever you use open from the client to the primary site MP?

I have managed to resolve the issue with this one, it seems to have been a problem with AD, we had extended the schema but for some reason some of the clients were simply not getting the correct info from AD. I added a DNS record of SMS_SLP that pointed to the IP address of the primary site server (SLP) and now all the clients get the correct primary site code. I must also thank John Marcum and Jason Sandys for their help with this as well. Thanks Chaps. Freebie Jeebies | unlimited web hosting | diecast toys | Essex IT support | Free Wordpress Templates
