SCOM 2012 - SQL monitoring
Hi Team, Is it possible to monitor "SQL Server Buffer Manager counters" & SQL expensive queries (i.e Query which runs for longer time) using SCOM 2007 R2 & SCOM 2012. We're just looking for them to get monitored using SCOM. Thanks, - Thanks, Varshinie

Hi, There is a SQL management pack here: System Center Monitoring pack for SQL Server http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=10631 And check this one, long running SQL jobs: How to monitor SQL Agent jobs using the SQL Management Pack and OpsMgr http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2011/08/05/how-to-monitor-sql-agent-jobs-using-the-sql-management-pack-and-opsmgr.aspx Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hi There is a good presentation on SQL Monitoring here: http://www.sqlbits.com/Sessions/Event6/Performance_Management_for_SQL_Server_with_SCOM_2007 Is it possible to monitor "SQL Server Buffer Manager counters" Yes - if it doesn't do it out of the box then it is straight forward to create monitoring based on perfmon counters but be careful with SQL because the performance counter names are dependant on the SQL instance name: http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2010/12/17/how-to-collect-performance-data-for-sql-databases-multi-instance-objects.aspx SQL expensive queries Not out of the box. SQL agent jobs and SQL queries are 2 very different things. If you are looking to do deep dive diagnostics on SQL then I'd suggest also looking at Idera SQL Diagnostic Manager and Quest Foglight \ Spotlight tools - scom has the breadth of monitoring but not the depth of custom built solutions.
