SCOM Console UI Crash in Vista SP2 x64
Greetings, I first posted on microsoft.public.opsmgr.ui however I have not had a great response and was hoping that by posting here, maybe there will be some ideas...Experiencing new issue with Console UI. SCOM UI on Vista SP1 x64 crashes a lot. Only one reference I can find to this issue is here... http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.opsmgr.ui&tid=6d7b0e20-45e3-4340-930e-cade308ee5ac&cat=4AE2B8F4-410B-C1C7-3FBB-D261FD9C3408&lang=en&cr=US&sloc=&p=1 Issue: Crash occurs randomly. MS Error report says I need to update my Acer Memory Card Reader Drivers. I don't have an Acer Memory Card Reader. Nontheless, tried the patch and still crashes. <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event"> - <System> <Provider Name="Windows Error Reporting" /> <EventID Qualifiers="0">1001</EventID> <Level>4</Level> <Task>0</Task> <Keywords>0x80000000000000</Keywords> <TimeCreated SystemTime="2009-05-18T21:32:34.000Z" /> <EventRecordID>2789</EventRecordID> <Channel>Application</Channel> <Computer>edited</Computer> <Security /> </System> - <EventData> <Data>424202933</Data> <Data>5</Data> <Data>CLR20r3</Data> <Data>http://oca.microsoft.com/resredir.aspx?SID=7886&iBucketTable=5&iBucket=424202933</Data> <Data>0</Data> <Data>microsoft.mom.ui.console.exe</Data> <Data>6.0.4900.0</Data> <Data>47b710bf</Data> <Data>System.Windows.Forms</Data> <Data>2.0.0.0</Data> <Data>4889dee7</Data> <Data>6194</Data> <Data>23</Data> <Data>System.UnauthorizedAccess</Data> <Data /> <Data>C:\Users\edited\AppData\Local\Temp\WER1C95.tmp.version.txt</Data> <Data>C:\Users\edited\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportArchive\Report0f2c2e60</Data> </EventData> </Event> Thank you!

Hi Brian.Have you checked this KB article? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951327Does this only happen on one system? On every system where the UI runs, a local cache is created. Delete this cache before starting the UI as well might help.Best regards, Marnix Wolf (http://thoughtsonopsmgr.blogspot.com/)

Is this happening on OpsMgr SP1 or R2?Are you running the console with elevated permissions (Run As Administrator)?Michael PearsonOpsMgr Performance Test Team This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.Use of attachments are subject to the terms specified athttp://www.microsoft.com/info/cpyright.htm

Same problem with me as well. The console comes up fine.Usually it crashes when going into health explorer view. It doesn't crash all time I go into it but I would say about4 out of 10 times. I am running Vista SP1 32-bit.I would love to see the solution too.

But the patch gives me a message saying that this does not apply to your system. I am a member of Domain Admins group, so would it make any difference to try to run asAdministrator?

Hi! Thank you for the replies. I believe RajeshG_US will be fixed with the 951327 patch crashing in Health Explorer, however this has not fixed my issue. I've also tried 953817 and 951327. I'm running Vista x64 SP2 with SCOM SP1. Note the link I originally gave to a similar issue exists in R2 Beta. The key is the error report which makes reference to an Acer Memory Card which I don't have. Thank you again for your assistance!

Hi! This morning I added myself to the system policy and was running longer than it has, but still crashed. This crash event log is different though. Event Name: RADAR_PRE_LEAK_64. I'm not exactly sure what this event name is, but I do believe it's a memory leak by evidence of a RADAR_PRO_LEAK_32 discussion here... http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/isvwindowserrors/thread/54a2a5d3-b865-47e6-bec4-e2abfd69f582/. If this is the case, maybe there's not a way to fix this on Vista?Thanks!Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event"> - <System> <Provider Name="Windows Error Reporting" /> <EventID Qualifiers="0">1001</EventID> <Level>4</Level> <Task>0</Task> <Keywords>0x80000000000000</Keywords> <TimeCreated SystemTime="2009-06-02T16:25:21.000Z" /> <EventRecordID>3875</EventRecordID> <Channel>Application</Channel> <Computer>system</Computer> <Security /> </System> - <EventData> <Data>407107221</Data> <Data>5</Data> <Data>RADAR_PRE_LEAK_64</Data> <Data>None</Data> <Data>0</Data> <Data>Microsoft.MOM.UI.Console.exe</Data> <Data>6.0.6278.0</Data> <Data>6.0.6002.2.2.0</Data> <Data /> <Data /> <Data /> <Data /> <Data /> <Data /> <Data /> <Data>C:\Users\name\AppData\Local\Temp\RDRCDBD.tmp\empty.txt</Data> <Data /> </EventData> </Event>

I too am having this problem. However, I am using Windows 7 RC x64with OpsMgr SP1. Everyone in my office has the same problem (we are all testing Windows 7). I can send any error reports upon request. It seems to happen randomly, sometimes I will be using it, other times it will be sitting in the background minimized.

SCOM 2007 SP1 UI on Vista SP1 crashes here as well. Dialog box says: "System Center Operations Manager 2007 has stopped working" then the solution box pops up and indicates I need to update my Acer Memory Card Reader Drivers. I don't have an Acer Memory Card Reader. Please, any ideas welcome. The console is almost unusable.

I was worndering if a solution has been found to this thread since I'm experiencing the same issue and it's very annoying.Operations Manager 2007 SP1 Console running on Windows Vista 64bitRegards,

Same problem here, I'm running Vista x86 SP2. Today was the first time I actually tried the "Check online for solutions" link and I laughed when it told me I needed to install a driver for my Acer Media Card Reader. Fortunately my laptop still has Windows XP on it so I have that sitting next to my work station so I can actually use the Ops Manager console. It's next to useless on my desktop machine due to this problem.

I had exactly the same issue under Vista x86 and recently switched to Win7 x86 (RTM) and the problem persisted. My workaround has been to install XP Mode and run the console as a virtualized app!

Hello everyone, we are going to have a fix for this (in testing now). It's currently planned as part of a suite of fixes for R2. Look for this around the end of September (that's the current plan today, subject to change). Thanks,JustinThis posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. Justin, were the fixes released as scheduled? If so can you post a link to them? My corporate GPO does not allow me to run Windows Update so I need to get the files seperately to install.ThanksKevin

Hi Michael, We are running R2 and also see the problem with the OpsMgr console crashing. I could see that Justin mentioned (earlier in this thread) an update for R2 which should include a fix for this. Do you have some information about such an update i.e. if it contains fix's for the console crashes and when the update will be released. If there is a chance that I can get a hotfix via premier support it would be great as our monitoring team experience this problem daily. br Lars
