SCOM R2 Database Grooming Performance Data
My boss would like us to have the Performance data set to 60 days of retention. We will have 1000 servers sending data (Exchange MP,OS MPs, and SQL MP)Is this going to affect the performance of the RMS server? I am assuming that the Operational Database will get large.Has anyone done this long of retention? Thanks,Bob

Hi BobDon't do it! You'll kill the console if you try and populate it with 60 days of data.http://blogs.technet.com/kevinholman/archive/2008/11/04/boosting-opsmgr-performance-by-reducing-the-opsdb-data-retention.aspxJust use reporting - all the performance data is there in the data warehouse (for 400 days).CheersGraham View OpsMgr tips and tricks at http://systemcentersolutions.wordpress.com/

Hi Bob.Graham is totally right (most of the times he is actually :) ), don't raise the default grooming settings of 7 days for the Alerts. A higher grooming setting is bad for performance of SCOM and the DB size. (Among other things)Best regards,
