I am using SCOM 2012 and I want to start monitoring just a group of servers and monitor their availability in two ways. One: If I can really reach the server, so simple PING will do the job, but I cant find anything so simple like just ping there....? And the second one which I want to monitor is Processor usage, Memory usage, HDD free space again just for goup of servers. I know that these data are already there, but I need to find the way how to make email notification and alerts just for group of them. Can somebody pls help me?

The Health Service Heartbeat Failure alert is generated and the management server attempts to contact the computer by using ping.

thank you for your answer. I Could not reply sonner for some other work and I want to read all you send. I try to solve it step by step and start with availability of Servers. Heartbeat on Agents really help to push me forward, but I still dont get it. I find that we have active Heartbeast for 60 seconds and that it is shows in Active alert. I also know how to make email notifications, they are based on specific rules/monitors etc. But I still dont know how to connect it to specific group? If I should make a new rule or monitor and base on that make some override for my selected group? Still dont know and cant find how:( I noticed that in Subscriptions you can send "Health Service Heartbeat Failure" alerts, but that would be for all servers and I want it just for selected group. But still dont know how.....
