SMP on another server
We have added another server to the site and added only the SMP role. Computers can run the backup task but not restore. Seems there is no computer association created. IIS is installed. The backup task works fine. Here's what
the log states during the restore when it fails. I can see the data on the SMP server directory where we are backing up to.

Also on some computers, the backup fails with the Failed to find client signing certificate error. KB 971571 is not installed on that machine. Not sure why it would fail on some and work on others.Jay Parekh Project Leadership Associates

Hi Jay,
The error 80004005 is a general unknown error - that along with the ‘NoReply’ response. This could be communications problems between the client and the
migration point/MP.
Also, the update which can causes this issue should be KB 974571 not KB 971571. You may re-check it:
User state migration is unsuccessful on a SCCM 2007 SP1 client or on a SCCM 2007 SP2 client after you install security update 974571
If it is not the case, you may take the steps in the following article:
Trusted Root Key errors on SMS 2003 and SCCM Clients.
And try to reinstall the SMP to test.
Regards,
Sabrina

Resolved. The server with the SMP role had the site server$ in the local admin but the site server did not have that other server$ in it's local admin so two way communication was not happening.Jay Parekh Project Leadership Associates
