SQL Server 2008 R2 Support
Apologies if this information is available elsewhere, I have looked and cannot find the answer.
I would like to know whether WSS3.0 supports a SQL 2008 R2 database.
Thankyou in advance
Jason

The question is more whether Microsoft regard this as a configuration that *they* will support.
Certainly the original SQL Server 2008 is OK although I think there is a requirement that WSS 3.0 or MOSS 2007 needs to be at SP2 level - but R2 ?
P.S. It's OK.
This
Office SharePoint Server 2007 supports SQL Server 2008. However, you must install Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 SP1 or later and Office SharePoint Server 2007 SP1 or later in order to use SQL Server 2008. Office SharePoint Server 2007 also supports SQL
Server 2008 R2. Ensure that you have installed Office SharePoint Server 2007 with Service Pack 2 (SP2) or later.
is from this http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262485(office.12).aspx
2010 Books: SPF 2010; SPS 2010; SPD 2010; InfoPath 2010; Workflow etc.
2007 Books:
WSS 3.0; MOSS 2007; SPD 2007; InfoPath 2007; PerformancePoint; SSRS; Workflow
Both lists also include books in French; German; Spanish with even more languages in the 2007 list.

Hi,
I see the questions is marked as answered question, just wanted to add my feedback:
Jason wanted to know if WSS 3.0 officially supports SQL 2008 R2. the link which you have sent is referred to MOSS 2007 and not WSS3. The correct link for WSS3 is this one: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc288751(office.12).aspx
and at same location is just mentioned:
"Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 supports SQL Server 2008. However, you must install Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 SP1 or later in order to use SQL Server 2008."
and there is nothing mentioned about SQL 2008 R2. I haven't found any official MS document which says that is supported. do you guys have any?

Typically if Office SharePoint Server 2007 also supports SQL Server 2008 R2 (included in the earlier quote) then WSS 3.0 supports SQL Server 2008 R2.
MOSS 2007 is after all in effect WSS 3.0 plus additional functionality - i.e. is built on top of WSS 3.0 so if it works with R2 than WSS 3.0 without any additions will too.

Update Info:
I asked our TAM at Microsoft and he confirms that the page has not been updated. It means the page will be updated and WSS3+SP2 is compatible with SQL2008R2
