STSADM restore error
Hi all,
When I am trying to restore the backup file using STSADM restore operation i am getting the error.
"One or more files in the restored site collection will exceed the maximum supported path length.
Please select a shorter destination site address and try again."
I queried database and found nine files are exceeding maximum supported length of 260 characters.
I Deleted all the nine files, took backup once again, tried restoring.
Restoration failed once again with the same error.
Can anyone figure out why this is happening.
Thanks
srikanth.

It's not just the file length you need to be concerned with. It's the entire path to the file.
Socheck for long folder names within your document libraries and also ensure that your site collection url's aren't overly long.

Remove those files from Recycle bin as well and then do backup and restore again.
If your objective is move the FULL web application then you can also consider Content database option. You can take backup of content db from server A and restore it on Server 2 related SQL server let say with name "WSS_Content_RestoredDB" and on Server 2 , go into central admin, select your web application and go into Content DB option, Remove the existing content DB and select add a Content DB option and select existing db and put name "WSS_Content_RestoredDB", this way Server2 is now ready to use.

Hi BizWorld
Thanks for your suggestions.
Did not mention in my prev post,I removed those files from recycle bin as well, still received the same error.
As u guessed my objective is to move the entire webapplication, but under different path.
I took backup of http://servername:1000
created new webapplication on port 2000
Trying to restore using STSADM restore operation
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\BIN>stsadm -o restore url "http://servername:2000/sites/Central Engineering" -filename \\server\backup.dat
restore fails after 6hrs.Size if my backup file is around 32GB
I think i cant go forward with Content database option.Do you have any suggestions

STSAdm restore is same if you backup and attach content DB. however DB option is good if your objective is to do this on another sharepoint server. Not on the same server. While in STSADM you can restore on the same server under a diff port.
One more suggestion is to truncate LOG files of your content DB on SQL server so that you can have a less size backup.

your site collection may have files larger than the max allowed file size on the new web where you trying to restore.
