Scaling out FIM service
FIM 2010 Installation Guide says - "Additionally, the FIM Service and the FIM Portal can be scaled out to multiple servers."I was able to figure out how this could be done for FIM Portal but not so sure for FIM Service. Cansomeonethrow some light on this topic? Thank you.Anu

Hi Anu! It's pretty easy, the FIM service is simply a connected system communicating with web services and a database. What you could do is install FIM Service on multiple physical machines, connect them to the same database (existing database during installation) and use a common load balanced url for the web services and you're done! Edit: Maybe there's also a possibility to use more than one FIM MA (I'm not sure about this but it seems possible) connected to the same database but different FIM Service instances (also connected to the same database), in that case you could for example use one FIM Service for group management and one for other work. //Henrik

Having more than one FIM MA per environment is not supported.Cheers,MarkusMarkus Vilcinskas, Knowledge Engineer, Microsoft Corporation

Thanks Markus! Then we got that clear but we could at least scale out FIM Service on multiple machines using load balancing. //Henrik Henrik Nilsson
