Setting SNMP Options via OSD Task Sequence
Greetings,I'm currently using a MDT Imported task sequence to deploy Windows Server 2008. I am successfully installing the SNMP server feature but I would like to be able to set certain settings such as allowed hosts and community strings. I have seen settings that can be used in the unattended.xml created by MDT but I don't know how to tell the task sequence to apply those settings to the newly installed OS. Can someone please provide some guidance on how to do this? Thanks.

Hi I did this some time ago with a script that was changing the registry directly. Even though time has passed since, i can't find a tool to do it via a script. (the only thing close to this is Powershell extensions but as the name implies, you would need powershell installed) now a more simple alternative would be toset thisvia a GPO. hope it helps

Setting the SNMP community via GPO would be lovely but I have not found that option.I know that those settings can be set through the unattended.xml file (created with WAIK). There seems to be an option in the OSD task sequence that uses those settings (called "Gather") by I haven't figured out how that works and I haven't found any docs that describe it.

I know this is old topic and MS never came up with a good answer. I currently have the same problem. I think the problem is because the SNMP feature is not enabled yet when Windows checks unattendant.xml in the either generalize or specialize pass. If you check the windows setup log setupact.log in c:\windows\panther\, you should be able to see this error about SNMP: Unable to find a component matching the given namespace. I currently install SNMP feature in State Restore phase. Maybe I should move it to an earlier phase. Will try that later. Currently our workaround is to add .reg file during application install.
