SharePoint NLB
Hi!Just come across a MOSS farm (windows 2003 sp2 x86, moss sp2) with:1 wfe running WSS Incoming E-mail and WSS Web Application services.1 app server running the same as above + everything else ( including query and index role).1 sql 2005.The wfe and app servers are in a NLB (windows server 2003 NLB).My question is:Should these servers realy be in a NLB?The app server is under heavy load already.Wouldnt it be better to remove the NLB and move the query role to the wfe, or just remove the NLB?

Hi,If it is possible to add another WFE and configure NLB between the 2 WFE, this will be recommendedand leave the App server with the index rolethese links may be usefulhttp://sharepointmagazine.net/technical/administration/best-practices-of-sharepoint-farm-configuring-and-deployment-part-1-architectural-and-logical-planninghttp://www.slideshare.net/michaeltnoel/best-practice-sharepoint-architecturealso check this microsoft article about NLBhttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263044.aspxNLB runs on the front-end Web servers, and uses TCP/IP to route requests. Because NLB (and other software load balancing solutions) runs on the front-end Web servers, it uses the front-end Web system resources, and thereby reduces the resources you can use for serving Web pages

Hi Ahmed! That whould be the best solution, but :) I should have been clearer, sry.Im just curious in this particular case, is this setup with NLB correct/recommended or what would be the best thing to do without adding any servers, to gain better performance?

Hi,Before I recommend removing the NLB I would recommend you to go thorugh Joel's post about NLB (Network Load Balancing) and SharePoint... Hi,Me too, that's why I have recommended in my first post either to add a second WFE and configure NLBor not to have the current setupBest Regards,

Can't see that you have recommended anything else then adding another WFE.But as you said in your previous post, I don't think this setup is any good for the current setup ither. The WFE can handle the total amount of users by its own and let the APP server do what it should.ty and gl hf! :)
