This sounds like exactly what it states. Somehow your network is being dropped in the middle of your operations. Verify your network connectivity (possibly it's a bad network card, or switch...possibly its a bad cable).

I am getting another error, but the root of the error seems to me the same. I've analysed the trace log and found that time out were then Quick Profile Synchronization Job runs the stored procedure profilesynch_sweep_GetDBToken.There is another procedure profilesynch_sweep_UpdateDBToken andseems that it locks table SweepSynchfor all following select. That's why the time out expired error occurs. Looking forward for SP1... Pavel.

We are running WSS 3.0 but SQL is running on a separate server. Since I personally did not setup WSS I'm not sure if there is a connection issue between the two or if it was setup incorrectly. Could you please supply some troubleshooting tips? Thanks, Laura

In general, these errors are indication that the WSS web front end is unable to communicate with the SQL Server backend. Make sure all your credentials are up to date. Sometimes the farm account is a domain account who's password has expired or changed. To set curent credentials, see this post: http://blogs.msdn.com/joelo/archive/2006/08/22/712945.aspx

We had numerous 5586, 7888 and occassional 27745 errors (the 27745 errorscaused intermittent outages). We finally tracked it down to sql aliases wesetup for our nonstandard sql port back when we were running SP2003. It appears that MOSS does not like the sql alias. On all of our WFEs, we ran c:\WINDOWS\system32\cliconfg.exe and removed the Alias entries. Hope this helps someone solve their errors...

Was it in the event log?I am having the same issue by the way.

Using a sql alias with w2k8 R2 SP2, MOSS 2007 and sql 2008, when trying to start the windows sharepoint server search service, I got event id's 5586, 7034 and 3899 all in a row. Adding an entry to the hosts file of each server in the farm that pointed the sql alias name at the sql instance ip address resolved the issue for me. After adding the host entry, I am able to start the wss search service without error. I think it would be preferable to set it up in dns instead of having to manage hosts files, but have not yet confirmed whether or not that actually works yet.

I am also facing the same issue sometimes while browsing the site and getting the below error message. Value cannot be null. Parameter name: value at System.String.EndsWith(String value, StringComparison comparisonType) at Microsoft.SharePoint.ApplicationRuntime.SPRequestModule.PostAuthenticateRequestHandler(Object oSender, EventArgs ea) at System.Web.HttpApplication.SyncEventExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute() at System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously) I am using SQL alias to connect with SQL server. Any solution against this issue will be appretiated.

Nannu Ann - Do you get the error even with the entry to the hosts file on each server in the farm that points the sql alias name at the sql instance ip address?
September 21st, 2010 4:21pm

I have the host entry done for all farm servers and still getting the error. We have 2 URLs for accessing the site with the same content database. One is for internal access and other is for external access. We are successful accessing the internal URL even the external URL is throwing the error message.
