SharePoint version indication
Hi everyone, I'm having a question about SharePoint version. The Microsoft.SharePoint.dll version is 14.0.6106.5008. Is it true that my server was installed the latest update of SharePoint (August 2010 Cumulative Update for SharePoint)?

6106.5002 is the June, 2011 CU. so your system has that CU on it and some later hot fix that came out before the next CU in August, 2011. Aug, 2011 CU is 6109.5005. That build number is associated with the June 2011 Cumulative Update for SharePoint 2010 (the 6106 value is the key number, here's a couple of sources I used to confirm that info: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-NZ/sharepoint2010general/thread/b5628769-98e2-4074-86f7-f8c630ee5a79 and http://toddklindt.com/blog/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=224. Please keep in mind, this is not the latest CU available for SharePoint 2010. The latest and greatest CU is currently the June 2012 CU (build version 14.0.6123.5002), although there should be another CU coming in the next two weeks as I'm aware of at least one major fix that is being included in that CU package. Finally, the other thing to remember about CUs is that since they are not fully regression tested like a Service Pack or a major Release, you should not apply a CU unless it contains a fix that targets a specific issue in your farm. Depending on what you're doing in SharePoint 2010 there's a good chance one of the more recent CUs does have something in it that you need, but you should still confirm that and not just blindly install it without checking that and thoroughly testing the update in an environment other than Production first. Add ROIScan to the box, run and the script will show all patchs applied and tell you the SP level. The .dll version number can be confusing as it depends on various factors, when, why and how etc... to much to detail here.
