Greetings: doe anyone know what Microsoft considers to be an acceptable load time for Sharepoint 2007 External Facing website. If so, do you have a URL where I can reference this infomration. I see all kinds of information on how to perforance tune, etc, but nothing on what is considered accpetable and what is not...I do. Our consultant has told us that 8 seconds is an exceptable load time for Sharepoint 2007, however we are all finding this very hard to believe. I know this was the case years ago, however not so much now. If anyone can point me to some Microsoft endorsed references I would really appreciate it.

There is no simple answer to your question. It all depends on what you are trying to display on the page. What web parts you are using? What are the specs on the server farm and the client pc? I've seen MANY pages load much faster than 8 seconds, but I've also seen just as many load in over 8 seconds. Are there any closed web parts on your page? That would affect load time. How many list items are you displaying on the page? Are you performing any custom javascript on the page? First thing you should do is go to your page that you are loading. Append ?Contents=1 so that the url looks like: http://yourURL/page.aspx?contents=1 This will display a list of all the web parts on the page. If you see a "NO" listed next to any of the web parts it means they are CLOSED on the page.... This means they are not visible to the user but are STILL getting loaded and taking up resources. If you have a lot of closed web parts, the first thing you need to do is find a new consultant. :) Again... I wish there was a simple answer to your question, but it really depends on what you are trying to do. I wish you the best of luck! Mark

I particularly like your point. ;) If you have a lot of closed web parts, the first thing you need to do is find a new consultant. :) I was thinking there was a benchmark that Microsoft has set if you are running your systems in accordance with their Best Practices, and performance tuning. I see there are lots of resources available to assist us in ensuring we are running in accordance with the above. Thanks Kim
