Sharepoint 2010 first site
We just installed SP2010. It created two sites. An Administration site and a Sharepoint - 80 site. I need to create two sites. An intranet site and a help desk site. Do I use the Sharepoint - 80 site for one of these or, if not, what is it's purpose? Also, we are using Foundation. It does not have many templates. I would like to use one of the Publishing templates for the intranet site. Is there somewhere I can download that template or is it just not available to Foundation?

Wexford Http's defualt port is 80. So essentially if you were to create a web application on port 80 you would not have to mention the port like http://mywebapplication:80 (same as http://mywebapplication) to access the web app or sites under it. On the other hand if you would to create a web app on port 6000, on accessing you would have to append the port number:http://mywebapplication:6000 However, please note that you could always create alternate access mappings or change host header names in which case you might not have to specify the port number. And NO, the publishing portal is not available for Sharepoint Foundation. Check this link: http://allcomputers.us/windows_server/feature-comparison-between-sharepoint-foundation-2010-and-sharepoint-server-2010-for-farm-administrators-(part-3).aspx Here is a link with a couple of custom site templates: http://sharepointhoster.com/installing-custom-site-templates-to-sharepoint-foundation-2010.html Hope this helps

Going Forward, Thanks for the quick response. Your information is exactly what I need. I had been researching both on the web with no real clear answers. Thanks again!!!
