have 3000 user in my AD and every year 600-700 user will be added to it. client want's file sharing between users.user should be able to make discussions and ... .

i want use sharepoint My site feature. just worried about number of site collection in web application.

i know limits are 750,000 site collection per farm ( 500,000 personal site and rest other site) but not sure if i am doing right !

what you guys thinks about this?

3000 users is a very small number. what is your exact concern?

As an admin, I don't like personal sites because

* Personal site leads to a lot of wasted site collections. If you enable each and every user with the ability to create personal sites... a lot of users will accidentally click on there profiles thereby creating a personal site... but they don't use it. so you have lot of unused site collections.

* In other cases ... people begin to use their personal site as a team site and then leave then leave the company :)

yes 3000 user is not so much in compare of site collection limit  in farm.

i mentioned that client wants user be able to share files with each other or their team. and also user have to be able to discuss to each other ...

if you have any other solution to this i will be happy to hear.
