Installed SP1 and December CU over the weekend. Users cannot use the edit document control for .doc's. It is greyed out. Docx work fine and so does xls and xlsx. Check out is available and the doc can be checked out and then checked back in but the edit document control still stays greyed out. Upgrade the doc to a docx and it works again.

We just found something new. If the user navigates to another document library and back with the .doc document still clicked the edit document control becomes available.

That won't work because we are on Sharepoint 2010. New developement the problem fixed itself over night. Nothing change in sharepoint.
