Sharepoint replica
Hi,
I have wss 3.0 sharepoint server which is a production box. I want to create a replica of the existing sharepoint server for testing purposes.
I have done the following
1)Installed and configured a wss 3.0 on other server
2)Created a web application.
3)Restored the database from the production box to the test box
But it doesn't work. The page doesn't open.
Could anyone guide me how to go about this.

hi,
Do you check versions of WSS installed on both machines ?Are you getting Central Admin up and running on Dev Box ?Is there any customization on prod box ?Did you create a new config DB or you have also moved config DB, if yes create a new config DB and tryHow did you attach content DB to site? using stsadm command ?
Please check above settings and let us know.Warm Regards, Pratik Vyas | SharePoint Consultant | http://sharepointpratik.blogspot.com/ | Posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights

Hi,
Both versions of wss are exactly the same.
I'm getting central admin up and running on dev box
What i did on dev box is
1)Created a Web application which also creates the db on the sql.so there is no need of attaching the content db.
2)Restored the full backup of prod server on the db that was created along with web application in the dev box.
I belive somewhere the approach has gone wrong. Please help.
thanks.

ok,
you mentioned that you are trying to created replica then how it is possible without attaching DB from prod to dev ?
and what if you create a new site on dev, is it accessible using its own DB ?Warm Regards, Pratik Vyas | SharePoint Consultant | http://sharepointpratik.blogspot.com/ | Posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights

Once i create the web application (which also creates the db in sql)..
I will create a blank site then I restore the backup of prod db to the test db.
but once i'm restoring the db...the home page will not open.
i believe that some binding should be done at this stage.
I think if i can speak to you for few mins..i can fix this issue.
Can you post me your # if you are in india and if you don't mind. Thanks.

UNable to load a home page after a DB restore seems to be like an issue with the solutions which are installed on the production farm which are not on the dev farm. look into the farm solutions deployed on the prod site and installl/deploy the same on the
dev box as well. Also check if you are able to browse the dev site with the dev server url
http://url/_layouts/settings.aspx if settings page comes fine or not.

Guys, thanks for all the help. I was able to fix the issue. I took a backup of prod server through command prompt and restored it on test server using command prompt. The command prompt backup backsup all the components including iis and that did the trick.
I would like to know how to enable Explorer view in wss 3.0? Appreciate any help on this. thanks.
