Shifting SharePoint to Database server
Dear Friends
I have Sharepoint 2007 and SQL server 2008 Running on two separate machines. What i want to do is to Remove SharePoint server and shift all the data to SQL server machine (yes i want to run SharePoint From Database server to remove the actual sharepoint
server).
what i think is
1. I can install fresh SharePoint to Database server and can give the Existing database when configuring (As SharePoint database is already on Database server)
2. I can take a backup of sharepoint, install fresh sharepoint on database server and use the new database for sharepoint configuration and then Move things like, site definitions and collections to new server by using the restore.
3. OR I can just fresh install sharepoint, Take a backup of the databases of the sites i need, create new sites in newly installed sharepoint server, connect the provisos database with new created sites.
There are some ways i can think of, But i dont want any pain. Any thing you guys can suggust will be good.

Hi aliusmankhan1,
Thank you for your post.
If I understand correctly, what you want to do is to move your SharePoint Server from the original machine to the Database machine, right? If it is so, I think
you can do the following steps:
1.
To prevent your data loss, I suggest you back up your database first.
2.
Install SharePoint on the database machine.
3.
Restore the data and configure SharePoint Server with SQL Server.
Here are some useful articles, I think these will be helpful and enlightening to you:

Hi aliusmankhan1,
I have found an useful article, although the version of SharePoint and SQL Server it talks about is different with yours, I think the process is still worth considering:
