I work in a Public Library and we would like to use Steady State to help manage our public access computers. I've begun playing with Steady State and I see how it would work in a Workgroup or stand alone environment. But we would like to use it with Active Driectory domain logins. Is there anything special that I need to do for this setup? Also, we use a 3rd party computer and print management software (Pharos) to help manage scheduling computers and managing print jobs. I spoke with their tech support and they said their software works witih other software such as Deep Freeze so it should work here. Is there a step by step procedure to follow that would guide me in setting these computers up with Steady State in an Active Directory environment? Jim in Cleveland

Hi I'm also in an Active Directory Environnement, and I'm facing a problem concerning Windows XP clients under Steady State and their session loading time. Almost all my computers (400) are protected with Steady State since 2.5beta and I'm very satified with it. Though :), lately I had to update some of them with a real big software configuration, the Default Profile is around 300 mb, it goes down to 150 when copied in Default User. The problem is the first session opening of any user, it is more than 4 minutes long under this heavy configuration, but it is no more a problem from the second session opening from the same user since its profile is now created localy on the machine,after that, session opening time goes down to less than 30 seconds which is good enough for me. The problem is that I can't ask the 200 potential users to open a session on each computer before I freeze them with steady state ... I have a lot of user nomadism and can't create generic accounts, my users have their unique account and use it on many different computers ... So the question is, how do I accelerate my session opening times ? regards

I have been heavily researching different ways to lockdown my 400+ Windows XP SP3 Desktops (in two countries.)I am wondering if SteadyState is really the way to go. I have a java-based VoIP application that needs to be updated from time to time. It lives in a centralized area on each desktop (C:\Java\Cache & C:\Windows\Sun\Java\Deployment). Is there a way to keep these areas persistent? Alternatively, I understand that I might be able to upgrade each desktop with a custom script however this Java Application might not cooperate. I have toyed with the idea of using a virtual desktop environment (that would live on each desktop). Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for your time in advance! UPDATE :: It was just too easy. I was really over-thinking it :-) ANSWER: Ok my java application is simply a bunch of files that I can copy to each workstation during the allotted critical update process (files will come from a workstation that I manually update)

I have a test computer setup with SteadyState in a windows domain. As soon as I turned on the drive protection it enabled scheduled software updates. I will track it for a while to make sure the updates are working. I would like to see if the scripted updates will work too. We have some updates, flash, etc. running during login so I'll have to see if those hold up too. It's a clean install with everything current so it may be a bit before I can tell if it's working like I want it.
