Tried moving a site collection - it failed
Hi All,I just downloaded and installed the SharePoint Administration Toolkit so that I could use the "Move" site collection feature. It errors out with an "Access Denied" error. OK, but access to what - the database? If so what permissions do I need? I have them all I think. I created the databases (both of them) and can add, change, delete, whatever I need to do.Here is the exact error I got in the email.ThanksKellyJob Title: Research Wiki Move Job Description: Start Time: 8/27/2008 11:10:46 AM http://info23:21270/sites/research -- Operation FAILED: Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException: An error occured in stsadm.exe while moving the site. Access denied. at Microsoft.Office.Server.ESCM.ESCMMoveJob.Backup(Uri Src) at Microsoft.Office.Server.ESCM.ESCMMoveJob.JobTaskExecute(String SiteUrl) at Microsoft.Office.Server.ESCM.ESCMJob.Execute(Guid targetInstanceId) End Time: 8/27/2008 11:10:48 AM kelz1004

Well I just figured out the error but am unsure of how to fix it. It is a registry error.Access to the registry key 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\12.0' is denied. I am an administrator on this machine so I'm not sure what access it wants.Any help? kelz1004

Try running "psconfig -cmd secureresources". This "should" fix security related issues with the registry. Also make sure that the account for the timer service has rights.

Didn't make any difference. I still get the "Access Denied" error. Any other suggestions. Thanks a bunch!!!! kelz1004

Did you try enable diagnostic logging and look up the LOGS folder in 12 Hive. You can read on how to troubleshoot and debug sharepoint here http://intellects.in/2008/08/27/troubleshooting-debugging-sharepoint Try changing the logging for General and Topology to audit failure and verbose and then check logs for detailed error message. There is a possibility for that you might get the error on the web page itself if you tweak your web.config (Refer to the post url i mentioned above for instructions) Sameer Dhoot | http://sharemypoint.in
