USB Stand-Alone Media Not Booting
Howdy. So, I'm attempting to create USB (Kingston 32gb DataTraveler c10) BOOT media (keyword BOOT) using SCCM 2007 on a Windows 7 machine. I'm attempting to boot on Dell systems (755, 780, etc.) and I'm just getting the general error:
Remove disk or other media.
Press any key to restart
From what I've read so far, when I create the media (most of the forums referenced Vista, so I assume it's the same for Win 7) using the SCCM console it should be ready to go. I've verified the BIOS settings for USB are enabled and regardless of what
the boot sequence is I get the aforementioned error. I've looked in DISKPART and made the partition ACTIVE (which is not required unless your doing it from XP from what I've read) and have looked in DISKMGMT.msc and it show the partition as primary as
well. So, really my first question is should the USB flash drive be ready once SCCM 2007 on my Windows 7 box dumps the stand-alone media from the OS Deployment task sequence? Did I miss a step somowhere? Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

Couple of things to try:
1. Force the USB boot via BIOS (choose boot manually). For HP it's F9
2. Some new USBs come with hidden partitions with it's own utilities. Check Kingston to see if there is a utility to wipe it.Jay Parekh Project Leadership Associates

I've tried forcing already, on a Dell is F12 for Boot Menu and USB device does show, but get the generic error above when I select it. I'll look into the hidden partition, but I have not seen anything in DISKPART or DISKMGMT.MSC and as I stated the
partition with the data is Active and set as the the primary partition. Thanks for the suggestions.

Your Google Fu is strong, mine is weak. My understanding was that those steps were required for XP, but On Vista (I assume Win7), the process that creates the media performs those steps for you. However, I digress, I have performed the steps
verbatim and have restarted the TS media dump. I will let you know in a couple of hours as this process is NOT expedicious by any means....

Alright, those steps worked for me and I am able to boot to the device. Of course, the Task Sequence has failed so now I get to troubleshoot that. Thank you for you assistance (BTW, I tried the second link you'd posted already)
