USMT Question
I am new to ConfigMgr and am sorry if I repeating this question.
Just wanted to know if I can capture user state from one machine (which is a SCCM client) and Restore is on another MAchine that is also a SCCM client and both have OS already installed.
Meaning - assign a Capture TS to machine A
Creating an association between A and B
Assigning just the restore task Seuence to machine B
Reason, i am asking this is , we have some hardware vendor that is hosting one of our DP and is performing Imaging for us however, they can't host a SMP as there are several sites within our Org and it is highly impossible to Copy that kind of data
across a small bandwidth. So, as we are approaching end of lease, they (hardware vendor) would be imaging our new machines and deliver them to us and then we would like to create association between old and new and take the approach I mentioned above
Please help!

yes you can capture user state from SCCM by advertising a package to the old computer to capture it. You can then manually run USMT to restore the data. If you use the SMP this gets more complex because of the encryption. I was doing it in SMS 2003
where there was no SMP. The same method can still be used today in SCCM.
Alternatively you can upgrade to R3 and use the new OSD features for factory integration and send your TS to the hardware vendor (if it's Dell this is really easy) which would eliminate the need for them to host your DP and it would allow for user state
to be restored more easily from the SMP.

Thanks John.
We have considered R3 Updgrade too and the reason we choose the DP hosting route is to eliminate any post configuration tasks in our environment. I know second task sequence for USMT separately is considered post configuration Step, But management likes
it that way.

Prior to R3 that was about the only way to do it. R3 really extends the capability of your hardware vendors to provide seamless SCCM integration. It's worth looking into IMO.
