Virtual Earth Server & SSRS 2008
Hi All, I have been looking at developing reports with intergrated bing maps. However my company is reluctant to open up proxy ports etc. As part of another project I have been told we have brought our own virtual earth server is it possible to point SSRS Maps to this internal server? Thanks John

Hi John, By design, the SQL Server Reporting Services(SSRS) invokes the Bing Maps SOAP Service, Imagery Service, to get the TileLayer. The connection string to the Imagery Service is hard coding. This means we can only use the internet Bing Maps SOAP service to render the tile layer. In other words, there currently is no option to integrate an on-site Bing Maps / Virtual Earth Server. You can submit a wish at https://connect.microsoft.com/sqlserver. If the service requests frequently, we may include it in the future release. Besides, more information about Imagery Service, please see: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc966738.aspx If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask. Thanks, Jin ChenJin Chen - MSFT
