WebDAV and Explorer View not working.
So I've read a number of the threads about WebDAV issues so I'm going to try and just go down the list as best I can: What: The issue is that WebDAV and explorer view are not working from the Windows Server 2003 Client that is also the host of the Sharepoint Server. It works, to some regard on other machines. On my XP machine, I can at least access it, though I get some access denied errors. Currently, those aren't the main priority. When accessing the document library via WebDAV or explorer view on the 2003 machine, I get no access. When I click Actions > Open in Windows Explorer, nothing happens. Windows explorer does not open, I am not prompted for credentials, no error is displayed, nothing is in the event log... just nothing happens. When I try to open in explorer view, I get a page cannot be displayed where the document library items should be. When I try and navigate to the document library via windows explorer outside of IE, I get the 'Windows cannot find ...." I have tried using both \\server\site\doc_lib and http://server/site/doc_lib. When I use the later, it tries to open it in IE and we start again. My (relative) environment: Windows Server 2003, Sharepoint 2007, IE 7, Host, IIS v6, Not SSL My (semi-)working environment: Windows XP, Client, IE 7 The steps I've taken so far at troubleshooting: Read through the Microsoft whitepaper Ensured WebClient was enabled Ensured IIS had WebDAV enabled (I see mixed results as to whether or not this is absolutely necessary or relevant, but just in case) General Info: The site is on port 80. The document library does not contain any foreign characters (a-z A-Z and underscore). I'm 95% sure this is just a configuration issue somewhere, but I'd like to figure out where so I can get this working. Any help is greatly appriciated. If you need any more information, I'd be happy to oblige.

These issues are always tricky ones to troubleshoot! One suggestion I would make is to make sure there is a site at the root of the web application (ie at / not at /sites/)This has worked for me in the past, but I cannot guarantee it will solve your problem. The site can be just an empty blank site. Also, you might like to check the followinghttp://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=17C36612-632E-4C04-9382-987622ED1D64&displaylang=enHope that helps!Paul.

There is no site at /. There is a site at /sites, but there is no site at /. And truth be told, the sharepoint site actually lives at http://server/sites/sp/ and the doc library is at http://server/sites/sp/doc_lib. There are also subsites of sites/sp which also have doc_libs that have the same outcome but I don't think this is the issue because, as I've said, I can get some access from other, outside computers. The update seems to be the first piece of it and I get further down the line before it fails now. All of the above is unchanged minus the fact that the update is now installed. I still get no response from clicked 'Open in Windows Explorer' but explorer view no longer shows a 404. Now, it forever displays the message 'Please wait while Explorer View is loaded. If Explorer View does not appear, your browser may not support it.' Any advice for this scenario.

Dead URL for Paul Lucas Link.
MS still under a veil of sharepoint protectionism, so no solution is to be expected very soon. :-(
