Web Front Ends without Loadbalacing
Hi all,I've just made a sharepoint setup with 2 web front ends, and 1 application server (and a SQL offcourse). The customer doesn't want to do loadbalancing between the two WFE's. Instead they want to create a Publishing site on WFE1 and a Collabaration on WFE2. When we create a new web app from the Central Admin, I don't see the option to place the app on the dedicated server. When I do create the site, I can see that the website is being created on both WFE's. I think this is normal, because SP thinks we will use NLB because of the two WFE's. Is this behaviour by design, or is it possible to create a web app on the dedicated server? Technically it will not matter I guess. With host headers I can get the clients to the web server they need. I just need an awnser from someone who knows this is by design. Thanks!Ralphie

Yes this is very much by design and makes sense. Two WFEs in the same farm must serve the same content. SPS2003 and Wss2.0 provided the way by design which was changed in MOSS2007. Technically still it is possible to keep the site getting created on the other WFE but I think that would lead it to make it unsupported. On the Services on Server page, find Windows SharePoint Services Web Application in the list of services, stopping this service will keep the Webapp on the server only and will not replicate it to other WFE. Thanks!I LOVE MS..... Thanks and Regards, Kshitiz (Posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.)
