Web applications do not appear
Trying to configure shared services...created a web application for SSP Admin, shows up fine. created a web application for MySites, doesn't show up. I can see it if I go to Delete Webapplication, or Create or Extend Web application, but on the shared services page it doesn't appear in the Web Application drop down, i.e. only the one that I created for SSP Admin shows up. I've run IISRESET even though I selected the restart IIS option, and I've cleared the browser's cache.

Hi, I had the same problem a while ago and it was about the application pool accounts I used. I would suggest to check if the SSP and Mysite web applications run under the same application pool account. If so, try to make them run under different accounts : Go to IIS manager > Click the your server > Applications pools > Right click the application pool name and choose properties > Click the Identity tab and the account used. Hi,
I am sorry I cannot reproduce the issue, could you please provide more information for further research?
1. You said you could not see the web application, please tell me in which page you cannot see the web application, the New Shared Services Provider page or the Managed this Farm’s Shared Services page?
2. If you cannot select the web application when creating new SSP, can you see other web application in the dropdown list? Please make sure the web application is valid. And please try to create another new web application for my site host location.
3. If you cannot see the web application that associate to the SSP in Managed this Farm’s Shared Services page, please try to check if the web application is associated to another SSP(you have changed associations), you can select “Change Associations” in SSP managed page to change association between Web applications and SSPs.
Let me know the result.

The reason is while creating the web application you might have selected the "Predefined" option with Network services. Instead of that if you try the option "Configurable" and add a user name and password can bring our
web application listed in SSP creation page...
This is the account going to manage your application pool. See all these information from the "Application Pool" section of "Create New Web Application" page. This is the account credentials going in action while coding
using RunWithElevatedPriviledges...
Explore more and realize the sharepoint architecture...
