You should always backup your MP's. This can be done with powershell. If you have a serious issue with your management group and have to do a restore, the MP data is in the database, but should there be any issues and or you cannot restore and have to start fresh, then you want copies of your mps so that you can reimport them. http://www.toolzz.com/?p=813 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc540399.aspx http://scug.be/blogs/dieter/archive/2011/07/07/scom-2007-automated-backup-of-unsealed-management-packs.aspx Sealed MP's, you should keep copies of those on a file share somewhere and keep them up to date as new mp's are released.Regards, Blake Email: mengotto<at>hotmail.com Blog: http://discussitnow.wordpress.com/

Hi Management Pack information is stored in the database. 1) In theory no. If you have a database backup then if the DB fails, you just recover the database. In practice: a) for custom management packs - yes. In case someone accidently deletes the management pack. Also so that you can have a record of changes. b) for sealed (msft) management packs - no. But I would download the management packs to a software library. And then import them to scom from there (rather than import management packs directly to SCOM). It is required to have a copy of an MP if you want to start authoring using the authoring console and need to reference that (sealed) management pack. 2) No. The management packs are in the database. You don't need to do anything with regards to management packs if you replace \ recover a management server. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc540391 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc540399 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc540400.aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc974486.aspx Cheers GrahamRegards Graham New System Center 2012 Blog! - http://www.systemcentersolutions.co.uk View OpsMgr tips and tricks at http://systemcentersolutions.wordpress.com/
