Will AutoCAD files work with sharePoint?
The company I work for is looking for an application that will allow us to work from home on AutoCAD files. Will sharepoint work for us? We are a small company and do not have an IT professional so it would need to bea fairly straighforward setup. Thanks!Deanna

There are number of 3rd party providers that make autocad templates for WSS. There are also a couple of iFilters that just allow autocad to be used with WSS. Search the web for AutoCad iFilter. They are prety inexpensive

Guess it depends on what do you mean by "will it work?" SharePoint would make it very easy to create a site and then store the autocad filesin a document library. This would then give you a storage location that is browser accessible. If you then put your SharePoint on the extranet (available on the internet with a username and password) then you could access the file from home or your desk. Maybe what you should do is try one of the hosted SharePoint services so you don't have to setup anything. Shane - SharePoint Help

Adeptol's AutoCAD viewer (www.adeptol.com) let's you view the AutoCAD files in high fidelity and faster rates, with no software required to be downloaded at client side right within sharepoint. What's best is user's can view these files, and you can specify permissions using an easy to use API to switch off Printing or Saving of files, thus still keeping control over the information. You can not only render the document as view only document, but also control printing, navigation, pan control and even saving of document. None of the permissions are stored in the document itself, keeping your original document as it is, thus complying you with legal restrictions and compliance regulations. AutoCAD Viewer is a server based product and a single installation on one server within the corporation allows file sharing among the whole enterprise users. No additional software like AutoCAD, Adobe, Office etc is required. Users can view and markup drawings (with Annotations Add On) over any network or the Internet, directly from within a web browser and perform annotations/markups, without ever installing anything on their computers.Supported File Formats: AutoCAD DWG, DXF & DWF formats for following versions-2009, 2008, 2007, 2006,2005, 2004, 2002, 2000i, 2000, 14, 13c4, 13c3, 13c2, 13c1, 12, 10, 9, 2.xCheck details at www.adeptol.com or www.ajaxdocumentviewer.com

Hello Mike, I saw your post here and was curious if you know what happened to CADnection. I also visited SharePoint reviews http://www.sharepointreviews.com/component/content/article/72-sharepoint-connectors/314-CADnection-for-AutoCAD-and-SharePoint.html and it would appear CADnection no longer has a website. Have they been acquired? if so please post. Thank youSharePoint Solution Architect | MCTS
