Windows Delayed Write Failed
Hi, I am trying to copy a document from a team site to main site which has similar document library structure. When using the explorer view to copy the documents. I get and error in the taskbar as a popup which says Windows - Delayed Write failed Windows was unable to save all the data from the file servername\teamsite\documentlibrary\folder\document.doc. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by failure of computer hardware This error does not happen when I use another team site with same document library structure and try same steps. What could be the reason? Appreciate any comments on this. Thanks

I've also seen "delayed write failed" in non-SharePoint environments, just trying to write files to a file server. Things to look at are:Speed & Duplexsettings on nic of server and its respective switchSpeed & Duplex settings on nic of client workstation and its respective switchOn the above 2 points, ensure that the NIC's and Switches do not mix & match settings, either Autonegotiate on both sides, or fixed on both sides.Update NIC drivers on server and client.Ensure NIC in server is not set to power off when not in use (idiotic setting on many intel nics)Disable (temporarily) antivirus which may be trying to scan the file as it gets written (client side and server side if necessary)

Hi Geoff, Thanks for an approach but the documents I am trying to copy in explorer view are in kb's. Most of them are below 100 KB so may be something else going on. Thanks

Hi,
I have also seen this delayed write failure caused by uploading folders with the string "_files" in the name as created when you save a web page in Internet explorer. e.g. daves_files
The folder uploads correctly then all the files inside end up 0 bytes and produce the delayed write failure error message.
Cheers Dave

Does the document library require "Check outs". You will probably find that you have to "Check out" your files prior to opening explorer view and copying files via that method. Alternatively disable Check Outs from the Versioning settings of the document
library.

I have been working with this same problem most of the day, going through a LOT of complicated steps. For me, the answer was that Check Out is enabled. The upload works the regular way, but not through Explorer View. When I temporarily disabled require
checkout, the upload worked!
