Windows Server 2003 OS deployment thru SCCM
I'm trying to do a Windows Server 2003 deployment using SCCM. Much of the articles I found pertains only to client OS and Windows 2008. How is this possible? Can you help me with the step by step procedure. bonoman406

It's no different than XP really as 2003 and XP are very similar. The only real difference I can think of is to make sure you use the appropriate sysprep files from the version of 2003 you using -- each service pack level has specific sysprep files that can be found on the distribution media or can also be download from Microsoft. Here's the link for the server 2003 sp2 x86 sysprep tools: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=93F20BB1-97AA-4356-8B43-9584B7E72556&displaylang=en. If you want to incorporate R2, it's pretty straight-forward: http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys/archive/2009/05/21/operating-system-deployment-and-2003-r2.aspx and http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys/archive/2009/05/30/operating-system-deployment-and-2003-r2-follow-up.aspx. Other than that, most everything that applies to XP also applies to 2003 as far as deployment goes.Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/jsandys/default.aspx | Twitter @JasonSandys

I'm using an HP Proliant Server and it comes with SmartStart CD that helps you configure the RAID setup of the server. Supposed I have 3 x 300GB and I want to configure these disk to RAID 5. I want to allot 80GB of the logical disk as System Drive. Using the SmartStart, it will allow you to choose the OS version of Windows and where the image will be coming from (cdrom, iso, virtual media). From this setup there is no option to use SCCM as your source unless I boot up using PXE instead of the SmartStart cd. What are the steps & procedures you do when it comes to RAID configuration before OS installation? And servers that are using Start Up CDs like HP and IBM?

Here's a link to a whitepaper from HP on this topic: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c02259242/c02259242.pdf. Dell has a similar offering: http://www.delltechcenter.com/page/Dell+Deployment+Pack+for+Configmgr+%28Server+Deployment%29. I think that IBM has something similar.Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/jsandys/default.aspx | Twitter @JasonSandys

hi jason.... i tested the document and encountered problem on the part of accessing the SCCM server, this is probably the client server cannot get IP from DHCP yet. In our environment we don't activate DHCP on the server farm's subnet, we apply them by static. Is there a way to resolve this issue, though as specified in the document. Just wondering if you have done this procedure and resolved the issue. HP ProLiant server boot methods HP ProLiant servers support multiple means of booting, including PXE and using Virtual Mediathrough the Integrated Lights-Out controller. DHCP is recommended to use in the server operating system deployment environment. HP is currently diagnosing the issue of static assigned network IP address.

Are you using PXE? If so, by definition, PXE requires DHCP.Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/jsandys/default.aspx | Twitter @JasonSandys

I'm using a boot disk that was created using the OS migration procedure.
