Windows Sharepoint 3.0 site collection missing
Hi,
I have Windows Sharepoint services 3.0 installed in a server and run fine for several months. My configuration includes several web applications and web sites in a W2k3 with Sp2 server. After users complaining why some sharepoint sites don't work i found
that the following table of Site Collection information in "Central Administration > Application Management > Site Collection List " was missing.
URL <<http://URL:port>>
Title << title of sharepoint site>>
Description
Primary administrator: <<user>>
E-mail address:
Database Name <<SharePoint_DB_name>>
This table existed in the other Sharepoint sites that worked ok. Luckily, the site hadn't a lot of data and I created a new web application and site. But finally after a few months all the sites are out of order, only the central administration site is working
but i can't find something to correct the failed Sharepoint sites. Whenever i try to do any action ( create a new web site, manage web site, delete web site etc) within any web application it fails because it says there is no site collection configured or
has an nknown error. The "Alternate access mappings in "central administration -> operations" is not working for my sites and i can't create new access mapping.
In the past i moved DBs to another partition of the same server but afterwards sites were working for some time.
I have tried to run the reconfiguration of the WSS discribed in KB944154 although this fix isn't installed in my server, but it fails. I have a lot of 5586 and 33002 errors in Windows application event log.
Sharepoint services are working, Sharepoint Backup is working, SQL is working, IIS sites are in place, Sharepoint administration is working, Web applications are visible but now ALL the sharepoint sites are off. I perform command line backup because
backup and restore is not working from the GUI but i haven't tried to perform a restore because it's kind complicated and don't know to when the sites were working or not.
Sorry if my description is a bit confusing, i'm available to provide more information if needed.
Can someone help? Thanks in advance

Hi,
Thanks to share your post.
For the issue, do you mean that the SharePoint collection lists are missing? If yes, the web application should be missing or the SharePoint content database should
be destroyed. Please follow this article to restore the SharePoint database correctly:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/833797.
Or you may need to go to the SharePoint site settings to activate the team collaboration lists:

Hope this could help you!

Hi, thanks for the reply.
I managed to fix the problem, at least for the 7 out of the 9 sites I had configured. The solution was to create a new
search database (in the same server) and to dismount the old one.
This moment I have no access to sharepoint server to post more details about the steps but if anyone needs the
steps please ask.
For the history, the Site Collection was not missing, i could see all the sites i had created when I was in "Central
Administration > Application Management > Site Collection List" but i couldn't see the properties of the site as i described in my post (url, admin etc), resulting in the "site can't be found" in my browser. I performed several restores from GUI
going from most recent to older, all failed with an error about the search database. That triggered me to create a new search db for my sharepoint server, and after that i was able to see again the sites (in fact when i type the url i get an "unknown sharepoint
error" but after a refresh or click of the "go back to site" link the site appears ). Now, i can perform backup and restore from GUI without errors.
Thanks
George
